Position Overview:
The Carrier Performance Manager will oversee carrier performance and negotiations across multiple transportation modes, directly and indirectly, through a team. Responsible for delivering results by maximizing carrier relationships, reducing costs, improving service, and increasing carrier capacity. This role will ensure that CJL’s carrier relationships and contracts support the Company’s long-term transportation strategy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Investigate and analyze transportation-related claims, including damages, losses, and delays.
- Develop and implement accountability tools, processes, and metrics to improve cost and service.
- Develop negotiation strategies that will include targets for pricing, service, quality, performance and compliance. Negotiate and manage contracts, terms, and renewals with carriers.
- Act as an escalation point for carriers and internal teams to resolve service and operational issues.
- Maintain and/or improve relationships with carrier base and collaborate on continual improvement initiatives.
- Build a strong collaborative relationship with all internal and external parties through effective communication, conflict resolution, and compliance management.
- Create, communicate and implement transportation initiatives that support new business
- opportunities.
- Manage direct reports’ day-to-day priorities and provide coaching for successful development.
- Collaborate with Director, Carrier Relations to ensure the team is following best practices and trained to use available systems and technology.
- May be required to be on call and work non-conventional hours based on business needs.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA in Logistics, Transportation, or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
- 5+ years of management experience in Transportation, Logistics, or related field.
- Extensive experience with rate negotiations and pricing models across multiple modes.
- Understanding of TMS systems and technologies.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Experience working in MercuryGate TMS is a plus.
