Claims Manager, Travel Insurance - REMOTE

our mission: battleface is building the world’s first humanity-focused travel insurance company to bring people and the world together. Why? Because for far too long travel insurance has been stilted, stagnant, and hard to understand. But we’re changing that. How? By connecting travellers to customised insurance solutions that deliver peace of mind and relevant coverage. That means you get the right insurance at the right price—right where and when you need it. Backed by some of the biggest partners in travel, battleface makes buying and using travel insurance simple, seamless—and so awesome.

the job: At battleface, our focus is always on the customer’s journey, both literally and figuratively. The crossroads of that journey lives on our technology platform, where we assess risk, provide emergency medical assistance, pay claims, and connect to travellers. We custom-build products for our partners.

We are looking for a Travel Insurance Claims Manager to join our team. You will oversee the Australian and New Zealand claims department, making sure we meet our customers’ needs while observing regulatory, fair claims handling guidelines and company best practices. You will also be working closely with our global claims teams in an effort to collaboratively drive better outcomes, both for the customer and to battleface.

Specifically, we're looking for a Travel Insurance Claims Manager who will:

leadership

  • Supervise a team of claims handlers and other staff involved with the claims management and claims processing departments
  • Work with the underwriting and management team to review claims portfolio, interpret findings and provide recommendations for improvements in coverage and service delivery

claims management

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of travel insurance claims (from notification through to settlement)
  • Review our various Product Disclosure Statements to determine coverage or liability for new claims by brand
  • Make enquiries in relation to claims presented for consideration
  • Facilitate the settling of simple and complex claims and process-related paperwork
  • Ensure claims are processed, documented and resolved within set procedures and industry guidelines
  • Provide instructions to service providers

compliance & continuous improvement

  • Ensure the claims department operates within regulatory and compliance guidelines and best practices, particularly the General Insurance Code of Practice (GICOP) in relation to claims handling
  • Pursue continued education opportunities to remain abreast of emerging regulation, laws or other required changes to insurance-related processes
  • Ensure the claims department functions in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Implement processes that support our focus on continuous improvement to improve customer outcomes

about you: You’re the type of person who jumps at the chance to get things organised. You love data, forms, order and constantly obsess over policy wordings. When planning your next vacation, you use a spreadsheet. You certainly think insurance is the most exciting industry and don’t understand why others might disagree! At the same time, you also think insurance needs to be simple and easy to understand, while respecting underwriting and regulatory guidelines. Using data, you’re able to identify future customer needs. You’re eager to help us define what those needs are and help us architect and build the right products.

essentials:

  • Proven experience in financial services
  • At least three years of experience as an insurance claims handler, claims examiner, or claims supervisor, one of which was in a leadership position
  • Must have a thorough understanding of insurance-related compliance obligations, regulations, and claims processing
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs including Excel, Word, and other programs is necessary

even better:

  • Start-up experience? Yes, please
  • Having direct experience in the travel insurance industry
