Clean Energy Workforce Development Program Lead

Manages the Laboratory’s portfolio of clean energy workforce development activities and programming that is closely connected with Laboratory initiative, centers (such as Argonne Collaborative Center for Energy Storage ACCESS), and divisions.

Activities include:
  • Develop a holistic strategy that is inclusive of both Argonne’s talent needs and the larger regional energy storage workforce ecosystem. Including identifying key partnerships with specific institutions and organizations.
  • Connect with local and regional community colleges, industry, and state level initiatives to better understand the current regional and state efforts in building a clean energy workforce.
  • Host regional and local events that bring like-minded individuals and organizations to support the development of a Midwest clean energy workforce ecosystem.
  • Represent the lab in national efforts, such as DOE Energy Storage Grand Challenge and industry-focused clean energy workforce development efforts.
  • Develops a system to capture partner activities and implements an evaluation plan and tracks metrics that demonstrates program impact and informs future program development;
  • Manages all public facing materials including website, social media, brochures, and outreach materials.
  • Aligns program to laboratory initiatives and outreach strategy, which includes the implementation of current activities and the development of new activities that address gaps identified through strategic planning.
Collaborates with Argonne scientific divisions and operational leaders to ensure programs are implemented with simplicity, efficiency, and transparency. Contributes to Laboratory reports; and provides quarterly and end-of-year snapshots that showcase program impacts. Periodically, supports grant writing efforts.
Supports the Workforce Development Manager’s efforts in building and nurturing relationships with key community colleges, union organizations and trade schools by leading workforce development efforts in clean energy. Works in collaboration with the Director of ACCESS to implement the Center’s vision on energy storage workforce development programming.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience of working within a high-functioning team and within a dynamic environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and collaborations with multiple partners ranging from industry, academia and government.
  • Experience in program development for adult audiences, including knowledge of initiating and maintaining institutional partnerships with community colleges, trade schools and workforce development organizations.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders needs and come to a collective solution for the good of the laboratory or program.
  • Ability to leverage technology and social media to increase efficiency and effectiveness in collaboration, communication, and engagement across multiple audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, cloud-based collaboration tools, online application tools, web platforms, and social media is desired.
  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and customer skills as well as the ability to establish a rapport with others.
  • Ability to collaborate across all levels of an organization and drive change effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to details; highly responsive.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
