Job Description

Ramboll is seeking a Climate Adaptation Planner in for our Northeast region, preferably in our New York City office. The ideal candidate has approximately 5+ years of experience in urban planning, climate adaptation and resilience, and community/stakeholder engagement. A successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: cloudburst planning, use of Blue-Green Infrastructure and nature-based solutions, community engagement, preparing written reports, applicable software skills (e.g., ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite), and experience working in the New York City and/or New York State context. The Climate Adaptation Planner will have an opportunity to support significant climate adaptation projects throughout the Northeast and will also have opportunities for career growth.

You will join our Climate Adaptation department

In joining our team, you will be part of an internationally leading company within the area of climate resilience with professionals working in a collaborative environment in the areas of Climate Resilience and Cloudburst Planning; Flood Reduction and Risk Mitigation, including use of Blue-Green- infrastructure (BGI), Nature-Based-Solutions and other Protection Measures; Watershed Management Plans; Sustainability and Integrated Infrastructure Planning.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

Preparation of climate resilience plans, integrated infrastructure plans, low-impact development, etc. in close collaboration with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
Lead and participate in Stakeholder Engagement.
Work closely with ecological and engineering design personnel to ensure planning services are complementary and integrated with overall elements of a project.
Prepare written reports, including writing skills and ability to prepare maps, diagrams, and other graphics.
Perform quality reviews of planning documents performed by other planners or subconsultants.
Manage planning and climate related tasks, adhering to scope, schedule and budget.
Understand the specific design and project needs or requirements, project processes and methodology.
Preparing technical reports such as risk vulnerability assessments and cost/benefit analysis.

B.S. Degree in an Environmental, Planning, or Sustainability field (M.S. preferred)
Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience
Demonstrated resiliency planning experience
Demonstrated experience in Climate Risk mapping and Climate Justice concepts
Experience with local, state and federal permitting programs and stormwater and floodplain regulations
Experience with conceptual and preliminary design of flood protection measures, stormwater management, and/or coastal protection

Preferred Skills/Certifications

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); if not certified, a commitment to taking the exam and becoming certified
Additional certifications, such as Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is a plus

Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include: strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work collaboratively across diverse planning and engineering project teams, and ability to work independently in applying practical knowledge in the resiliency planning area.
