Coder Abstractor

Overview:
Expected pay for this position is $19.19 - $22.57/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Coder Abstractor is responsible for the abstraction of clinical documentation for correct procedure & diagnosis coding and charge entry. While on a non-OSF billing system will answer billing questions, submit & follow up on claims, and manage self-pay collections including referrals to the collection agency. Will also perform other clerical tasks as needed for the department to function efficiently.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school or GED

Experience: 2 years’ experience in coding, billing and regulatory guidelines as related to physician practices

Licensure/Certifications: Coding certification within 2 years of hire

Other skills/knowledge: Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications. Medical Terminology course must be completed and passed within 180 days of beginning employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record system
