Summary
Responsible for abstracting, coding and/or verifying all inpatient and /or outpatient records according to established procedures and standards.
Education
Formalized coding education by an AHIMA and/or AAPC program required. Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology courses required.
Licensure/Certification
One of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, COC, CPC, or CCS-P required.
Experience
Preferred at least one year of acute care hospital coding experience, or two years’ experience in professional coding, which includes competence in using computerized abstracting and encoding system preferred.
