Senior Policy Adviser (Global Regulation) - job 2 of 3

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom around the world, and we couldn’t do this without hiring the best people. We’re a group of hard-working overachievers who are deeply focused on building the future of finance and Web3 for our users across the globe, whether they’re trading, storing, staking or using crypto. Know those people who always lead the group project? That’s us. There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for candidates who will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, and disrupt ourselves. Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work. Finally, we seek people who are excited to learn about and live crypto, because those are the folks who enjoy the intense moments in our sprint and recharge work culture. We’re a remote-first company looking to hire the absolute best talent all over the world. Ready to... #LiveCrypto? Who you are: • You’ve got positive energy. You’re optimistic about the future and determined to get there. • You’re never tired of learning. You want to be a pro in bleeding edge tech like DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and Web 3.0. • You appreciate direct communication. You’re both an active communicator and an eager listener - because let’s face it, you can’t have one without the other. You’re cool with candid feedback and see every setback as an opportunity to grow. • You can pivot on the fly. Crypto is constantly evolving, so our priorities do, too. What you worked on last month may not be what you work on today, and that excites you. You’re not looking for a boring job. • You have a “can do” attitude. Our teams create high-quality work on quick timelines. Owning a problem doesn’t scare you, but rather empowers you to take 100% responsibility for achieving our mission. • You want to be part of a winning team. We’re stronger together, and you’re a person who embraces being pushed out of your comfort zone. As a member of the regulatory policy team you will be working with policymakers and standard setting bodies on the adoption of workable and globally harmonized rules for digital assets. We are looking for someone who has worked extensively with (or within) an industry trade group, regulator, or standard setting organization on digital asset policy. Successful members of our team routinely organize written responses to discussion papers, concept releases, and proposals issued by regulatory authorities globally, and directly engage with staff at those regulatory bodies on the substance of the responses. This requires a firm understanding of how rules designed for traditional financial instruments can be adapted to digital asset issuance, transfer, custody, trading, and settlement such that they (1) do not impede digital asset innovation while (2) achieving equivalent regulatory outcomes. For this role, there will be a particular emphasis on work performed by international organizations that work with national and supranational authorities on the adoption of regulatory frameworks, including the Financial Stability board (FSB), Basel Committee on Bank Supervision (BCBS), Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), Bank of International Settlement (BIS), and International Organizations of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties): • Work with cross functional product/legal/policy teams to establish internal policy views on emergent regulatory issues • Brief executive level audiences on the potential impact of new/proposed rules on products and practices • Work with trade groups to establish consensus industry positions on alternative regulatory approaches • Draft superbly written materials in support of regulatory consultations and engagements • Organize and lead external engagements with regulators and standard setters What we look for in you (ie. job requirements): • Bachelor’s (or non-US equivalent) + advanced degree in law, economics, finance, or equivalent preferred. • Firm understanding of blockchain-based technology, products, and services • 6+ years of financial services regulatory experience • A substantial portion of the experience will have been working on digital asset regulatory policy at a (1) regulator, (2) financial market participant, (3) trade association, or (4) standard setting organization, or (5) law/consulting firm representing one of these organizations, • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, including internal subject matter experts (analysts, attorneys, and economists), outside counsels, and consultants • Exceptionally strong writing and communication skills Nice to haves: • Experience working as a regulatory economist or attorney advisor at a bank regulator, markets regulator, or standard setting organization Job #: P58834 Commitment to Equal Opportunity Coinbase is committed to diversity in its workforce and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
