Scope:
To assist Environmental Services Supervisor in managing and training custodial maintenance staff. This is a working position as a foreperson, where you are a leader, working with your team in the following ways: Encouraging teamwork, providing custodial training, developing good work habits, and enforcing departmental policy. Candidates must be able to work independently, inclusive of working from written or verbal orders and instructions, pre-established work patterns and assignments.
Experience:
Candidates must be knowledgeable and familiar with custodial procedures and safety measures.
5 years of experience as a custodial worker with the ability to demonstrate leadership capabilities. Ability to follow oral and written instructions for thoroughness in performing duties. This position may necessitate exposure to varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all essential functions / physical requirements of the job.
Bending/Squatting/Twisting/Crouching and lifting are constantly required throughout the day while mopping, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, polishing, buffing the floors, emptying trash, changing light bulbs, and moving furniture.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in custodial work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, faculty and the general public. Ability to plan, assign, schedule, review and supervise the work of assigned workers. Ability to maintain and prepare simple records and reports. Ability to use good judgment in administrative and personnel situations and make independent decisions. Ability to effectively communicate oral instructions/directions. Ability and agility to perform manual labor/housekeeping tasks. Obtain or possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license and maintain an insurable status for automobile and liability coverage, as required by the position. Computer skills including Microsoft office applications including Word and Excel, and email usage.
