About the role:
We’re hiring a full-time summer semester Communications Intern to join our team! You’ll work closely with our Communications team to build awareness and reputation for the Jerry brand, primarily through media relations and data journalism. If you thrive in fast-paced remote work environments and desire to experience working at a startup, this may be the role for you. This is a full-time, paid, remote internship, starting in May 2023.
Responsibilities:
Supporting day-to-day media relations outreach efforts across consumer, tech, business and trade media
Brainstorming and developing targeted media pitches
Conducting media research, developing media audits and targeted media lists
Monitoring for general news and competitor news and flagging opportunities/threats
Trendspotting societal and cultural news on the daily
Monitoring, tracking and reporting results
Potential to assist in social media research
Potential to assist in social media video content creation for TikTok and Instagram
Research ideas for data journalism studies
Researching and obtaining data for analyzing/referencing in data journalism articles
Developing drafts of data journalism studies with mentorship and support from our data journalist
Ideal Candidate:
You’re obsessed with news and following pop culture, societal conversation, and trends (you’re a news junkie!)
You are a journalism major or minor, or have previous media relations or communications internship experience or similar
You have superior writing and editing skills with the ability to – you can take complex, nuanced topics and develop creative, compelling, clear, concise and crisp pitches, stories and headlines
You’re a multitasker who can juggle multiple projects and deadlines, manage competing projects and urgent deliverables without missing a beat, and a pillar of composure under pressure
You thrive in fast-paced environments and are interested in gaining in-house, start-up experience
You are scrappy, resourceful and proactively uncover solutions to keep moving projects forward
