Community Worker - Summer Intern (Temporary)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The staff under the Children’s Initiative model will leverage learning, share knowledge and best practices and practice across programs, undergo continuous program improvement processes to support the client centered delivery of service within each resource centers community and work to leverage agency and partner resources to better support families.

The role of an Intern is to support staff in developing and delivering programming to families and young children. Interns are responsible for conducting outreach in the community they serve including community events and door to door. They will provide enrichment activities to young children during community events and established programming (book club and youth drop in services). Interns will be responsible for database input, providing resources and referrals to internal and external partners, child and enrichment programming, and attend ongoing professional development training.

The summer Internship will be from July 2023 - August 2023.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare program information to be delivered in the community and ensure that this information is culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate;
  • Outreach and work with youth in the Book Club and Youth Drop in services by creating and implementing weekly activities.
  • Help parents and caregivers identify gaps, barriers, and/or issues that interfere with children’s healthy development.
  • Collect the evaluation and data. Complete data entry of programs and community events.
  • Provide outreach, engagement and conduct education activities as needed.
  • Provide outreach, engagement and education activities door-door, at information tables/booths, small and large group presentations, informative announcements, and one on one interactions with community members at informal community gatherings (i.e parks, schools,faith-based events), and formal organized health/resource fairs.
  • Willing and able to work with school officials, admin staff, and other partners to coordinate space and other resources for community events/programming.
  • Participate in required training and attend monthly/ weekly team meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop an outreach, engagement, and education calendar of scheduled activities.
  • Provide delivery of essential services through the food bank, and others as needs arise.
  • Attend Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County trainings, meetings, and events as required.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess or be working towards a BA or an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent;
  • Experience in social services in community settings with families.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bilingual language skills preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse workgroups and serve families with diverse economic, social, racial, and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services
  • Support with child enrichment workshops
  • Demonstrate good writing and organizational skill
  • Maintain a professional, confidential work environment
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and multitask
  • Communicate effectively
  • Be flexible, proactive, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and practices, including filing systems, business, correspondence, presentations and report writing. Knowledge of the Internet, computer programs, e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The service is sometimes physical, requiring setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting cumbersome materials, e.g., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables, etc. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to report to a service site on a regular and reliable basis. Maintain different databases based on the program's need.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours, as appropriate, to coordinate and provide services and activities for families during non-traditional hours
  • Able to travel between sites and to attend offsite events throughout the county, as appropriate

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Clearance of fingerprint background check
  • Must have valid TB screening test
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s license, reliable transportation and current auto insurance per agency policy
