AVL is looking for a part-time Compliance Specialist - Import/Export to support our team in Plymouth, MI. This position is hybrid with partial work onsite & partial remote. This role is responsible for US regulatory compliance of importing and exporting for all AVL affiliates in North America. The Compliance Specialist performs activities through monitoring and maintaining all international shipments. The position also manages in an efficient manner all international Customs and U.S. government export and import laws.
This Compliance Specialist interfaces internally and externally, requiring strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong time management and prioritization skills are required for success in the position.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
Roles:
- Work closely with customs brokers to ensure proper duties/taxes and PGA requirements are met.
- Maintain and update the AVL HTS Database.
- Approve documents from supplier and affiliates to ensure correct information is listed for customs compliance for import shipments.
- Problem solving for all international import or export customs and freight issues.
- Serve as a liaison between all AVL internal/external customers or vendors as it relates to resolving issues with Customs or export regulation issues.
- Properly classify import shipments with correct HTS#, valuation, country of origin, OGA/PGA.
- Track all international shipments and resolve shipment delays or customs delays.
- Coordinate deliveries for import shipments.
- Knowledge of FDA and EPA requirements for import shipments.
- Obtain import and export quotes for airfreight and ocean freight shipments.
- Additional tasks as communicated for import and export operations as needed.
- Prepare export documentation – proforma invoices and SLIs.
- Ensure compliance on all export shipments – ECCN, EAR, ITAR, OFAC.
- Work closely with Logistics, Purchasing, and AVL Affiliates and Vendors to ensure compliance with global trade.
- Conduct post-import and post-export review of documentation for accuracy/recordkeeping.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR 3-5 years of related experience in Customs related activity as well as knowledge in international transportation processes.
- Customs Broker License preferred.
- Knowledge of Export Control Regulations – EAR, ITAR, OFAC, BIS.
- Knowledge of Incoterms.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrates effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully interact with customers and others at all levels of the organization and with outside agencies.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, results driven environment.
