Metalworking Technician - Entry Level (2nd/3rd Shift, Mon-Fri)

JOB SUMMARY          

The metalworking technician performs a variety of tasks and is assigned to the Machine Department. This includes reforming material to improve roundness, flatness, and the corrective radius of turbine engine cases to achieve required dimensional tolerance.  The successful candidate will utilize coldworking tools, hydraulic ram, acetylene torch and various hand tools and indicators.


This position is a part of a large Machining Department comprised of Manual Mill and VTL and CNC Mill and VTL.  The successful candidate will work alongside a team of experienced and professional machinists that will allow for continuous growth of techniques, skill knowledge, print reading and interpretation of technical drawings in a machine department environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Follow written instructions accurately including engineered sketches and drawings. Follow verbal instructions. Clearly understand all instructions before proceeding with work. Communicate frequently with other employees regarding work instructions.

2.      Inspect work for completion and quality. Understand and achieve quality requirements.

3.      Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts. Position requires constant communication with engineers, supervisors, and other employees to improve results.

4.      Be flexible to meet or exceed productivity expectations.

5.      Use a variety of hand-held power and non-power tools to perform various shop operations.

6.      Obtain fixtures, tooling, parts, and supplies. Set up fixtures and parts. Following provided work instructions, may use heat in some applications.

7.      Follow work instructions, use appropriate gages and tools to inspect parts to determine coldwork procedure required. May require setting gages to approved master gages.

8.      Use metal forming tools and hydraulic cylinders applying pneumatic pressure to specific areas of a production case to re-establish part features.

9.      Follow provided work instructions, use approved gages and tools to inspect part conditions. Record findings on provided process sheets and routings. May also record findings on additional documents and attach them to work records. Complete all documentation in accordance with company requirements. May be required to have qualified operators or inspectors verify inspection results.

10.  Possess the ability to use multiple inspection gauges. (Micrometers, Verniers, and Dial Indicators).

11.  Familiarity with use of propane and oxygen acetylene torch.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                    

1.      Obtain fixtures, tooling, parts, and supplies. Set up fixtures and parts. Following provided work instructions.

2.      Follow work instructions, use appropriate gages and tools to inspect parts to determine coldwork procedure required.

3.      Use metal forming tools and hydraulic cylinders applying pneumatic pressure to specific areas of a production case to re-establish part features.

4.      Record findings on provided documents. Complete all documentation in accordance with company requirements.

5.      Follow written instructions accurately including engineered sketches and drawings.

6.      Inspect work for completion and quality.

7.      Use a variety of hand-held power and non-power tools to perform various shop operations.

8.      Possess the ability to use multiple inspection gauges. (Micrometers, Verniers, and Dial Indicators).

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

1.      Previous experience and/or exposure working in a manufacturing environment or technical position.  (Previous machining experience not required.)

2.      The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of work scope instructions.

3.      Demonstrated ability to multi-task while adhering to a high attention to detail.

4.      Demonstrated ability or experience in being able to effectively communicate with team members, including participating in structured training.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

1.      High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.

2.      Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

3.      Some familiarity with measuring gauges such as calipers and micrometers.

4.      Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.

2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.

3. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts
