Job Summary:
 
ExtremeTech is seeking a skilled and dynamic editor and writer to help drive and expand our science and tech coverage and analysis.
  • We’re looking for an experienced writer interested in covering PC gaming, hardware components, game consoles, operating systems, and software. 
  • You’ll also be assisting in editing a team of freelance writers covering space, science, defense, energy, phones, consumer electronics, deals and commerce, and other hot technology topics.
  • The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, has demonstrated technology writing experience, and is a skilled editor with meticulous organizational skills. This role will report to the editor-in-chief.
Responsibilities:
  • Write 2-3 articles per day covering the latest developments in PC hardware, chips, components, and the semiconductor industry as a whole.
  • Work with contributors to ensure assignments are turned in on time, edit their articles, provide feedback, and ensure queries are answered.
  • Edit 2-3 stories daily, including authoritative news and analysis, deep dives, and how-to pieces.
  • Identify new story opportunities using data and audience analytics.
  • Participate in daily editorial meetings.
  • Programming the site and newsletters.
 
Qualifications:
  • At least 3-4 years of writing experience and some editing experience at a major tech publication.
  • Expansive knowledge across various science and technology categories, including PC hardware and software, phones, and space and science news.
  • Intimate knowledge of grammar and style, and a quick ability to make rough copy shine.
  • Proven headline writing and story packaging chops.
  • You should be able to generate ideas about how to broaden and expand our coverage and make a plan to turn those ideas into impactful stories.
  • A familiarity with SEO and knowledge of popular search optimization tools, but you also understand how to package a story to engage and delight your audience.
  • You should be comfortable using a CMS, image editing apps and tools, and data visualization programs.
  • We are a remote workplace, but you must be able to work 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM ET on weekdays.
  • We are seeking  individuals located in Canada who are flexible working on U.S. holidays.
