Our cutting-edge SaaS technology is revolutionizing law, and we’re looking for a Controller as we build out our finance team to support this next phase of our growth.
Reporting to the COO, the Controller will be responsible for full-cycle general accounting and other duties as assigned. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced accounting professional who is versatile and solutions-focused and shares our team’s values and commitment to our mission. You’ll play a key role in helping to build and execute the processes that will shape Blue J's future.
What You'll be Doing
Providing accounting services including treasury management, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting, and compliance
Preparing monthly financial reporting and analysis with accurate and timely information for the business
Providing input on finance matters, supporting new processes and continuous improvement within the business
Preparing timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Leading the month-end accounting closing processes
Overseeing year-end accounting close processes
Preparing payroll calculations and releasing payments upon approval (i.e., payroll taxes, EHT, T4s, etc…)
Monitoring, forecasting and reporting cash positions
Managing and complying with provincial and federal government reporting and tax filing requirements
Implementing consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding provincial and federal legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
Implementing internal control systems, operational procedures, and reporting systems to mitigate financial risks and support the growth of the business
Developing and enforcing internal controls to maximize the protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
What You Offer Blue J
Working towards accounting designation (CPA)
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian payroll practices, processes, procedures, and legislation
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and audit processes to analyze financial data and formulate conclusions and recommendations
Experience creating monthly financial statements and reports
Experience in Canadian Corporate Tax (i.e., GST, HST and corporate tax filings)
Process improvement and problem-solving mindset
Process orientation and strong attention to detail
Drive to make improvements through digitization and maximizing the use of systems
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong administration skills
High energy, positive attitude
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop strong, cooperative relationships with operational management and other support service groups
Prior experience with Big 4 accounting firms an asset; SaaS literacy an asset
