Responsibilities:
The Coordinator for First-Year Seminar provides communication, programming, and services to encourage the successful transition of all first-year students.
Maintain and update departmental website (firstyear.louisiana.edu) and explore website analytics.
Supports the Associate Director of First-Year Experience in the planning and execution of myriad programs designed to promote the academic success of all first-year students, to root them in the academic campus culture, and to improve student persistence.
Assist with instructor hiring, course scheduling, and monitoring of UNIV 100 seminars.
Provide support services for UNIV students to promote academic success, improve retention, and increase graduation rates.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of academic policies and procedures
Participate in OFYE staff meetings, training, and other staff development
Assist the associate director with the coordination, development, and implementation of high-engagement student success strategies, programs, outreach, and supporting technologies.
Assist with the planning and execution of large-scale student events and activities, as well as coordinating and supervising graduate students with social media accounts and calendar to promote engagement.
The coordinator may also teach two sections of UNIV 100.
Design/create and conduct seminars, classes, workshops, presentations, or programs.
Work with the associate director to define and identify problems and solutions, prioritize solutions and develop action steps for program improvement.
Provide administrative support to the associate director.
Develop, administer and analyze assessment/evaluation questionnaires.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote department events and Peer Mentor recruitment.
Interacts with staff faculty, external agencies and other university departments.
Serve on student success and campus committees.
Represent OFYE at Orientation sessions, Preview Days, and other recruitment events.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to graduate assistants and students workers.
The coordinator serves as advisor to Alpha Lambda Delta, First-Year Honor Society.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree for an accredited institution
A minimum of two years of professional experience in higher education
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of best practices in the areas of First-Year Students, Retention, Transition and Student Success
