Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP) Instructor- IC

The Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP) Instructor effectively teaches students the inner-workings of the healthcare industry and how to care for patients. This position is ideal for the experienced nurse who remains passionate about their clinical work with chronically ill or elderly patients in health systems, acute care hospitals, skilled nursing/assisted living/long-term care/intermediate care facilities, and home/hospice care and who is interested in imparting their knowledge to the next generation of nurse assistants. The Instructor delivers theoretical and hands-on, practical teachings to develop students’ knowledge of real-world scenarios facing nurse assistants and their patients.

The NATP classroom theory training will be taught in an in-person format, along with all clinical training experiences and skills labs taught in person. The Instructor may complete office hour in-person meetings with students at the Instructor’s discretion.

Locations and times may occur across different counties and facilities in California. The Instructor must be able to teach in Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Mendocino, Monterey, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. If approved by CDPH to teach in other counties, the Instructor will be required to travel. Reliable transportation is required. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.

       
 

Salary Ranges:

- $45-75 per hour for RN with Masters/Doctorate
- $35-50 per hour for RN with Baccalaureate
- $25-40 per hour for LVN
       
 

         

Position Description:        

    Instructional:
    • Coordinates and instructs assigned NATP classroom theory training, clinical training experiences, and/or skills lab coursework at the locations and times designated.
    • Teaches the NATP curriculum in an in-person learning format.
    • Administers assignments and assessments to gauge learning and comprehension as well as to measure the efficacy of the NATP teaching methods and curriculum.
    • Supervises academic engagement, assesses student performance, and extends support to encourage student success including, but not limited to engaging in office hours, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
    • Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided and assists with resolving student grievances, if necessary.
    • Supports students through certification and job placement.

    Administrative:
    • Assists with activities related to NATP approval as well as compliance with state and federal legal and operating requirements.
    • Ensures NATP curriculum remains compliant with approval guidelines, making suggestions for updates, as needed.
    • Along with the NATP Program Director, engages in administrative tasks including, but not limited to completing work plans, timelines, Instructor Monitoring Checklists/Tools, students’ Clinical Skills Check Lists, Daily Nurse Schedules, and Individual Student Records.
    • Participates in the development, planning, implementation and administration of NATP goals and objectives, policies and procedures.
    • Supports consistent NATP curriculum delivery across various clients.
    • Evaluates program metrics such as job placement and certification exam pass rates to determine NATP success.
    • Learns and effectively utilizes COPE Health Solutions Academy’s Learning Management System.
    • Works independently as a self-starter to efficiently manage administrative tasks.

    Collaborative:
    • Assists with the onboarding of new team members and provides mentorship, peer evaluation and feedback on content delivery, classroom dynamics and student interactions of other Instructors.
    • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert and engages with team members to leverage best practices and meet industry standards evaluating the NATP curriculum and lesson plans to drive continuous process and quality improvement.
    • Participates in information sessions promoting the NATP and supports marketing, social media advertising and recruitment which may include, but not be limited to emailing/calling prospective applicants/schools and making campus visits.
    • Develops and maintains high levels of student and client satisfaction internally and externally.
    • Ensures that clients/academic institutions understand, and are able and willing to articulate the value of COPE Health Solutions Academy and the NATP.
    • Assists with potential business development opportunities.
    • Carries out other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications and Characteristics:

    Education:

    • Active nursing license (RN or LVN) in California.

    Experience:
    • Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience (RN, LVN).
    o One (1) of the two (2) years of nursing experience must be verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting.
    • Verifiable completion in one of the following:
    o One (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs
    in nursing.
    o OR Twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing (submit course certificate or transcript) completed within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program. Courses must be approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or administered
    by an accredited educational institution.
    • Management experience with direct reports is strongly preferred.
    • Teaching experience at the associate/undergraduate level is highly desired, but not required.
    • Experience supervising associate/undergraduate internships is desired, but not required.

    Skills:
    • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills are required; i.e., the ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written correspondence as well as in communicating with individuals in one-on-one and group situations.
    • A precise command of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and the correct usage of the English language is required.
    • Ability to develop and deliver engaging, interactive, in-person instruction sessions is a must.
    • Attention to detail, adeptness with multitasking and excellent organizational skills are required.
    • The ability to make objective decisions without personal, subjective judgment is necessary.
    • Computer literacy is required and includes keyboarding ability and proficiency with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
    • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively while handling multiple projects on various timelines in an extremely fast-paced environment is required.
    • Must be able to work independently, be punctual, have good time management and analytical skills, and have a strong work ethic.
    • Expertise in pedagogical learning models, instructional design, assessment, and curriculum development is highly desired, but not required.
    • Knowledge of learning theory and learning outcomes assessment to support information literacy instruction is highly desired, but not required.
    • Experience with learning management systems is a plus.
    • Familiarity and proficiency with social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Snapchat is a plus.

    Limitations:
    The scope of practice which shall not be exceeded in classroom theory or clinical training is limited to that which is considered nursing practice as outlined in the Nursing Practice Act, Business and Professions Code Section 2725 and does not include medical practices which require standardized procedures. Broadly and all-inclusively, the practice of nursing means those functions, including basic health care, which help people cope with difficulties in daily living as (1) independent, (2) dependent, and (3) interdependent functions which are associated with their actual or potential health or illness problems, or the treatment thereof, which require a substantial amount of scientific knowledge or technical skill. Nursing Practice Act, Business and Professions Code (NPA, BPC, §2725, §2725(a), §2725(b)(1), §2725(b)(2), §2725(b)(3) and §2725(b)(4)). 

    Physical Characteristics:

    Employee is regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and audio/visual equipment; reach, stoop, kneel to transport/transfer supplies/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds on occasion. Sufficient mobility to execute the qualifications and characteristics. Accurately communicate with students, administrators, clients, community partners and the public regarding inquiries about COPE Health Solutions, COPE Health Scholars, COPE Health Solutions Academy, the NATP, and subsidiary programs, practices, and ventures.
