Crowe X-Lab is a human-centered DESIGN lab. We solve complex problems and invent new futures.

X-Lab is a human-centered DESIGN lab inside Crowe LLP. We champion the human voice, particularly the voices of our clients. We mash together a creative design mindset with analytical strategy approaches to invent new futures in our firm – for offerings, markets, practices, structures, experiences, brands, and, last but definitely not least, people.

A crucial part of the X-Lab mission: helping our people adopt a DESIGN mindset.

The X-Lab helps groups across Crowe solve challenges, both inside our business units and for the clients we serve. In the process of solving challenges, the lab also infuses new mindsets, methods, and tools into Crowe culture.

What’s our job? Simple. It’s challenging assumptions. Questioning the status quo. Provoking the imagination. Together we are creating a future where professional services address unmet (and unarticulated) needs with solutions that are meaningful, delightful, and friction-free.

We’re looking for people who share the following mindsets. You don’t need to be convinced – you just get it:

1. Always be learning; embrace experimentation.

This is a mindset of curiosity, exploration, and discovery. It holds preconceived ideas loosely. It listens more and talks less. It allows for new insights to surface — and these insights give birth to new innovations, new revenue, and new margin.

2. Possess a bias toward action; fail forward.

This is a mindset of always making and always doing, of building to learn (not to impress). It creates clarity through rapid prototyping and iteration. This mindset generates speed, creates alignment, and reduces risk.

This mindset starts with not knowing the answers and pushes us to think beyond false certainty shaped by preconceived solutions. The design process is not fixed or linear, so this mindset keeps us flexible and inventive, and moves us from iterative improvements to unprecedented futures.

5. Embrace change; design it.

This is an optimistic mindset – imagining, designing, and building better realities. It prizes integrative thinking and inventive strategy. It provokes new ways of thinking about tomorrow’s toughest challenges. It sees change not as an indictment of the past, but as fidelity to the future. This mindset breaks through boundaries and status quo and fuels the discipline of design to do what it does best: bring into existence what has never existed before.

We’re looking for a Copywriter to work in our design lab.

You are driven to communicate and tell stories in a way that touches your audience on an emotional level. You are mission-driven and enjoy working with a team to further that mission.

Qualities that will make you a successful Copywriter in the X-Lab.

  • Driven to develop and improve your craft
  • Interested in pushing past tired marketing cliches to reach human beings where they are

  • Comfortable moving into the content strategy space
  • Flexible and able to pivot easily

  • Deadline-oriented

What Copywriters on our team do.

  • Write well-crafted, clear, concise, and grammatically correct copy
  • Tell compelling, human-centered stories in the voice and tone of our organization and our clients
  • Work collaboratively on a content strategist/copywriter/designer team (we don’t “throw content over the wall” – we work in real time, together)
  • Interview subject matter experts to get at insights and powerful stories
  • Create content for web pages and other digital content, PowerPoint presentations, one-pagers, emails, video scripts, articles, and whatever else we decide would help us get our story across
  • Push the boundaries of content that has already been created – by self and others – and improve upon it
  • Able to turn data and obtuse concepts into a clear compelling story. Can make complexity simple.

The more of these experiences you’ve had in the past, the better you’ll do in the DESIGN Lab – and the more you’ll enjoy yourself!

Basic requirement. Highly skilled writer with at least 3+ years of professional writing experience.

Perspective from beyond the world of marketing. Our writing team includes a rich diversity of backgrounds, currently including a History PhD, a former screenwriter, a former art history professor, and a life coach.

Intense interest in what makes people tick. We love people who bring wide-ranging interests and esoteric passions. A passion we all share? Human psychology.

Experience with the principles of design. Human-centered design, design thinking, product design, art design, architecture – we want design thinkers in every X-Lab role, and any experience you have with design will help.

You won’t be in charge of anyone.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

It’s a fairly demanding job, with flex.

You may need to work the occasional weekend or respond to phone calls or emails in the evening. Once in a while, we have emergency projects and all bets are off. But it’s fun because we do it together!
