Corporate Controller

The position of Controller is of great significance to Valley Wide Cooperative. The Controller oversees the daily accounting operations of the Cooperative. This position is accountable for all financial transactions and internal control evaluation, improvement, and implementation of the Cooperative. The Controller maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.


Position Evaluation: Along with attitude and policy compliance, position will be evaluated according to results and outcomes achieved for Organizational, Departmental, and Individual targets and goals. These targets and goals will change regularly, usually on an annual basis.


Job Summary:

These are the basic requirements of the position and must be performed competently.

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including reviewing journal entries, preparing and reviewing account reconciliations, tying out sub-ledgers to general ledger and investigating differences.
  • Monitor the daily cash needs of the Cooperative and facilitate ACH and Wires as needed.
  • Direct and coordinate Cooperative financial reporting.
  • Provide recommendations for process and procedural improvements.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departments.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Supervise accounting staff that supports the Cooperative.
  • Work closely with other managers as necessary regarding all accounting issues.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Owns the relationship and is the key point of contact for financial and state auditors.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Holds organization accountable for proper internal controls.
  • Implements changes to processes and procedures that are necessary to comply with updated accounting standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES:

  • Bachelors in accounting or related field required. CPA and/or CMA highly preferred.
  • Ten plus years accounting experience preferred with at least three years of managerial experience.
  • Must have strong communication skills; ability to communicate in an appropriate, professional manner with managers, supervisors, employees, customers, vendors and general public.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate data, make appropriate decisions and execute them according to policy.
  • Prior experience in the fields of propane, refined fuels, retail, or agriculture preferred.
  • Prior merger and acquisition integration experience preferred.
  • Must maintain appropriate and expected levels of customer service.
  • Must have ability to determine order of need and task priority based on level of importance.
  • Must have a manager focus in all interactions and exhibit strong critical thinking/ problem solving skills.
  • Must exhibit a professional and positive image.
