Blair County Prison is seeking a fourth lieutenant. This position is a member of management and functions as a mid-level manager to oversee responsibilities associated with department budget, employee relations, inmate control and custody, labor relations, operations, planning, policies/procedures, records retention, and staff scheduling and work assignments. The incumbent will also serve as officer in charge during the absence of the warden or deputy wardens.
Essential duties include regularly touring the facility; maintaining department standards for attendance and tardiness administration/documentation, and records retention; enforcing County and facility policies and procedures with firmness, impartiality, and tact; reviewing or performing staff scheduling; keeping stop staff well-informed; ensuring work performed by subordinate staff and inmates is done satisfactorily; performing varied administrative tasks for warden, deputy wardens, or customers such as Board of Commissioners, Human Resources Department, or Prison Board; conducting or participating in investigations and disciplinary procedures; participating in hiring; coordinating periodic performance evaluations, firearms certification, and training; and keeping up to date in the corrections industry.
This position must be performed on site at the Blair County Prison. The work schedule for our hire will be on 3rd shift (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.), Friday and Saturday off; work can also be required on weekends, holidays, and emergency response as needed.
Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, and must successfully complete Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Title 37 training within one year of placement if without it at hire; possess at least five years' full-time corrections experience, with one year related supervisory experience; advanced knowledge of corrections methods, practices, principles, and techniques; moderate computer literacy in e-mail, Internet, spreadsheet, and word processing applications; moderate math abilities; proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills (both written and verbal); proficient organizational skills; willingness to work at any time emergencies arise or circumstances merit; and reliable transportation and/or a clean MVR. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
