Crisis Intervention Specialist I (CIS)

to join our Behavioral Health – Crisis Intervention team.

About the Job

As a Crisis Intervention Specialist I on our team, and under direct supervision, you will provide basic crisis intervention, de-escalation, and stabilization, mental health needs assessments to adults who are experiencing a mental health and/or substance abuse crisis.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • Current crisis prevention training, or MOAB during General Orientation required
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation

Responsibilities

  • Performs these duties under immediate supervision as part of an inter-disciplinary team
  • Conducts a comprehensive mental health needs assessment for each client
  • Provides basic client de-escalation and stabilization; and assists in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment
  • Coordinates interventions and de-escalation strategies with the inter-disciplinary team and external providers as appropriate
  • Coordinates discharge planning and external referrals with other staff as appropriate
  • Collaborates with inter-disciplinary team members in order to assist in the provision short-term case management to clients
  • Provides brief solution-focused interventions and reassesses current level of need with clients waiting for a higher level of care
  • With inter-disciplinary team input triages clients experiencing psychiatric emergencies, including suicide ideation and/or attempts, and determines which intervention is needed
  • Identifies appropriate clinical resources and makes referrals when necessary documents all information obtained in evaluation, assessment, consultation, referral, and disposition to comply with regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring the best possible client outcome
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
  • Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
  • Potential exposure to contagious diseases, body fluids, hazardous chemicals, needles, and other infected material
  • Exposure to violent and unpredictable individuals
