Responsibilities - What You'll Do:
The Breeding Technologies team within Seed Product Development is seeking a Cropping Systems Intern at our research center. In this role, you will have the opportunity to research multiple crops and agronomic practices and work in field and greenhouse settings, as well as interact with farmer customers and university collaborators.
The research center houses plant breeding research activities focused on corn and soybean breeding, as well as research to understand the potential of new cropping systems, thus you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, but focus on research projects in the cropping systems space. Specifically, we are researching methods to offer growers new crops and tools to help them manage their farms more sustainably and profitably, especially with the changing climate. These methods include cover cropping, double cropping and production of non-traditional crops in the corn belt.
You will assist with planting, harvest and data collection in our experimental plots and execute on field days for our customers and partners. You will also be responsible for designing and executing on your own research project during your internship. This position provides excellent experience that can be applied to full time positions in the industry, or in preparation for additional educational training in the plant sciences.
Requirements - What You'll Bring:
Sophomore or higher level student majoring in Agronomy, Ag Business, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Genetics, Biology or a related field. Must be enrolled at an accredited university following the internship.
Interest in careers in agricultural research, data science and/or agriculture engineering.
Must be able to work in varying environments to conduct field activities such as planting, harvest, and data collection.
