Culture Editor, GQ U.S.
GQ is an editorial powerhouse, with 20 global editions and 43M social followers generating 50M unique visitors every month. In the US, GQ reaches an audience of nearly 10M readers every month across our multiplatform channels.
GQ U.S. is seeking a Culture Editor to assign, edit and develop editorial strategy for daily coverage of television, movies, music, Internet culture and more, with a focus on strategically growing GQ’s online audience. This role reports to the Site Director.
The ideal candidate will be as sharply tuned to the online conversation about entertainment as they are to industry buzz about upcoming releases and emerging stars. They will have a well-honed ability to find fresh angles on news; a keen eye for new ideas, trends, and debates emerging on social media; a creative zeal for explainers, timelines, and other evergreen formats; and impeccable timing and judgment when it comes to selecting talent for Q&As and profiles.
This role also requires a ready pool of first-rate freelance writers to take on assignments and a talent for quickly turning around sharp copy. The Culture Editor will use audience insights to refine their tactics while maintaining editorial and planning calendars, managing deadlines, and advocating for creativity across the editorial organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support Site Director in developing GQ’s digital strategy specific to culture coverage
Assign, edit, and top edit digital culture stories to ensure storytelling meets GQ’s editorial standards and publishing targets
Oversee section coverage for GQ’s culture coverage, including assigning staff and freelance writers, leading idea generation, shaping pitches, editing daily site content, ensuring daily publishing targets are met, shepherding special digital projects as needed and managing freelance content budget
Work closely with Digital Managing Editor to ensure digital culture content follows proper workflow processes, including updating digital lineups, submitting art requests, coordinating as needed with copy and research departments
Collaborate with Audience Development teams to ensure culture coverage is leveraging data-driven insights to grow audience
Find and recruit broad range of new voices and contributors to GQ

Desired Skills & Qualifications:
At least 3 years experience editing digital content with demonstrated success in growing digital audiences
Passion for GQ and core editorial subject areas, such as fashion, film, television, music, internet culture, and more
Strong collaboration skills and experience working across cross-functional teams
Experience working with digital content management and editorial analytics systems; proficiency with AirTable, Google Analytics, GSuite, InCopy a plus
Excellent time management and organization skills; excellent news judgment
The expected base salary range for this position is from $65,000 -$103,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
