Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Facilities Division has an opening for a Custodial Services Supervisor (Swing Shift) to join the team.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing the custodial services and staff. The supervisor will effectively utilize staff, equipment, material, time and cost in the execution and accomplishment of custodial work objectives. This position oversees budget, equipment and property for assigned areas of responsibility. The supervisor administers Lab policies and procedures, all safety requirements and personnel actions of subordinates.
What You Will Do:
- Represent the management of the custodial services Department, Division and the Laboratory.
- Swing shift hours are 2pm - 10:30pm.
- Plan, develop and execute effective schedules for cleaning the responsible areas to the level required by the established standards.
- Ensure custodial staff provides safe, efficient and timely custodial services to support the Laboratory.
- Effectively plan for and to effectively utilize manpower, equipment, material, time and cost in the executing and accomplishment of custodial work objectives.
- Provide supervision to and manage the performance of the custodial staff.
- Act as backup to peer Custodial Services Supervisor in the event of their absence.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for custodial staff.
- Ensure staff’s time is charged to the appropriate work orders or accounts and approved timely.
- Manage all work orders assigned to you to ensure they are completed to the customer’s satisfaction and ensure the Maximo Work Order process is followed.
- Coordinate and collaborate, under the direction of the Field Services Manager, with your Customers offering the benefit of your technical expertise in providing Custodial Services. Custodial Services may include special service requests, pre-assessment of work area (if necessary).
- Respond to concerns raised by customers in a timely manner and keep managers up to date.
- Use creative problem-solving abilities to resolve matters and manage risks.
- Inform division management on the progress of:
- Programs implemented,
- Safety meetings,
- Any disruption of service,
- Customer service matters
- Any potential problems (service or personnel) and
- Any other relevant matter that may impact the department, division, or Laboratory.
- Provide your manager and involved employees with Monthly Shift Performance Inspections schedules.
- Ensure all direct reports are aware of all safety procedures, hazards for chemicals and any potential hazardous operation or condition.
- Conduct bi-monthly safety meetings with your employees.
- Search for and pilot new processes, equipment and or material to improve the department’s effectiveness.
- Collaborate with other Custodial Services Supervisor during shift change.
What is Required:
- 3 years of custodial services leadership experience in an industrial setting.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Experience includes managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing staff.
- Experience delivering full-service custodial services in an industrial setting.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use computers effectively for recordkeeping and communication; ability to quickly write presentable reports and memoranda on computer.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary for the role and scope of work performed.
- Experience working as part of a team in a diverse work environment within all levels of the organization.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to promote customer relations through partnering with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to make sound decisions using problem solving and analysis skills necessary for the role and scope of work performed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Custodial services supervision experience.
- Experience in supervising/leading union employees.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Notes:
- This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
- The full salary range for this position is $8,374 - $14,131 per month for the job classification of G03.1.
- Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group.
- It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience.
