Job Summary

The University Memorial Center (UMC) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the Custodian I position! This position is a part of the team responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the UMC, the central hub for student life on campus.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.
The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Affairs also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like assessment, business services, financial planning, human resources, marketing communications and information technology (IT).

University Memorial Center
The University Memorial Center (UMC) is an exciting center for activism and community interaction, offering a variety of student services and active student governance. Known as the campus “living room,” thousands of people visit the University Memorial Center every day to grab a bite to eat, enjoy free entertainment, shop the retail stores, study with the free wireless internet or engage with peers. The UMC celebrates diversity through food, dance, art, music and the free exchange of ideas.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance of Public Areas:
  • Position is responsible for maintaining and cleaning all public areas, entryways, and stairways. This includes sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying waste receptacles, dusting counters and shelves, washing windows and other glass surfaces as needed.
Daily Restroom Cleaning:
  • Daily cleaning of various restrooms throughout the UMC. This includes the cleaning and sanitizing of restroom fixtures, sweeping and wet mopping floors, cleaning mirrors, restocking the various dispensers with the appropriate products, and emptying waste receptacles, and when necessary cleaning restroom walls and stalls. Proper use of cleaners and cleaning equipment is essential.
Daily Cleaning and Maintaining Offices:
  • Clean and maintain offices throughout the UMC. This includes dust mopping and wet mopping floors or vacuuming where appropriate, emptying waste receptacles, dusting and cleaning office furniture and walls when necessary.
Semi-Annual Deep Cleaning and Maintenance Projects:
  • During the Winter and Fall breaks in the academic schedule, position will assist with a variety of cleaning and maintenance projects. This includes the cleaning and washing of windows, walls, light fixtures and furniture throughout the UMC.
  • Semi-annual strip, seal, and rewax all hard surface floors and shampoo or bonnet buff carpets. Proper use of equipment, strippers, seals, waxes, and carpet cleaners is essential.
Provide Support to Setup Team:
  • When necessary, provide support to Setup Team in the various meeting rooms and event spaces. May also assist and support the Setup Team with the moving of office furniture or other heavy pieces of furniture or equipment when needed.
Snow Removal:
  • Provide snow removal on the sidewalks and access ramps located around the UMC to ensure safe access in and out of the UMC.

What You Should Know

  • This is a fully in-person position.
  • The schedule for this position is Monday-Thursday, 9am to 7:30pm (4 x 10's). An option for a five-day schedule is available if preferred.
