Senior Accountant - job 1 of 3

Located in the heart of New Orleans, we are a Research University that has been around since 1834 providing higher education to all.The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our company. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic analysis to support decision making. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills and a keen eye for detail, as well as the ability to think analytically and collaborate with cross-functional teams.What You Will Be Doing• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP standards• Conduct account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies• Perform strategic analysis to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to management• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including ISO procedures, tax filings, and external audits• Manage and supervise junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed• Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements• Monitor inventory levels and cost of goods sold to ensure accuracy and efficiency• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement financial policies and procedures• Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as auditors, tax agencies, and regulatory bodies• Stay updated on state, federal, and OSHA requirements and incorporate them into financial practicesWhat You Will Need• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance• 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a senior role• Strong understanding of GAAP principles and practices• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills• Ability to think critically and make strategic recommendations based on financial data• Knowledge of legal compliance and regulatory requirements• Experience with ISO procedures and external audits• Strong attention to detail and accuracy• Excellent communication and collaboration skills• Proven ability to manage and supervise a team• Knowledge of inventory and cost of goods sold management is a plus• Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive financial information• Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team• Proven track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities effectively.Benefits• Vacation/PTO• Medical• Dental• Vision• 401k• Bonus• Relocation• TelecommuteEmail Your Resume In Word ToLooking forward to receiving your resume through our website and going over the position with you.
