Cytogenetic Scientist - Cytogenetics - Mon - Fri 11am-7:30pm

**The preferred candidate will have graduated from a Cytogentic Scientist allied health program and be CG ASCP certified or eligible.**

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Technical Expertise
  • Performs accurate cytogenetic analysis of all types of specimens, especially complex or difficult cases with accurate karyograms and advanced ISCN nomenclature.
  • Utilizes knowledge of patient diagnosis relating to cytogenetics to assist in completing report interpretations.
  • If necessary, can assist in patient result review of either conventional or FISH cases.
  • Troubleshoots difficult specimens, participates and leads in process improvement in wet lab areas as applicable.
  • Maintains competency in computer functions and can assist others with troubleshooting.
  • Participates in the review and maintenance of policies and procedures for relevant clinical testing.



Productivity, Resourcefulness, and Supervision
  • Maintains optimum productivity and completes additional responsibilities.
  • Trains other employees and assist with new employee development.
  • Communicates situations, problems and suggestions for resolution to the supervisors and manager.
  • Models team qualities (respect, helpfulness, and coping) to encourage a positive team environment.
  • Assists Laboratory Supervisors in supervision of assigned technologists and technicians, teams or processes when necessary.
  • Develops and participates in process improvements that positively impact productivity and laboratory function.



Quality Enhancement and Leadership
  • Adheres to CLIA and CAP guidelines during the development and validation of new assays, procedures or equipment.
  • Evaluates and validates new methodologies, tests and instrumentation with the help of Laboratory Supervisors.
  • Drafts procedures, lab bulletin, test cost analysis, business plan, competency tests and trains other employees for the new tests, processes or instrumentation.
  • Models ideal compliance with quality control, quality improvement, safety and quality assurance.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment.

Bachelor's degree in a related science field. No experience required.
