Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to create a pool of 10 for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at the Dairy Center for part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

Qualified applicants will be contacted as positions become available.
Primary duty is the care and maintenance of animals, facilities and some crop and grazing duties.

Position Duties
Students will be responsible for providing coordinated day to day care of the cows and heifers at the Dairy Center. Typical tasks include:
  • Milking
  • Stall cleaning
  • Feeding
  • Watering
  • Calf care
  • Other operations related to animal husbandry and facility upkeep
  • No previous dairy experience is required, but is beneficial

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • This is an off campus facility, employee must have a reliable form of transportation.
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Applicant is currently enrolled as a student at Oregon State University and/or dual enrolled with Linn Benton Community College.
  • Available to work early morning shifts: 4:00 to 7:00 a.m.
  • Work-study

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Employee may be exposed to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, loud noises, slippery floors and machinery
  • Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions
  • Employee may need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 pounds
  • Employee may be required to stoop, bend and kneel to provide care of the animals
  • Milking shifts begin at 04:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m
  • Employees are expected to work at least one weekend per month
  • Employees work schedule will be set according to class schedule
