Position Overview:
Reporting to SLAC IT’s Service Management and Business Intelligence, Manager, incumbent will provide data analytics, develop standard, or custom reports using Excel, Tableau and other systems and dashboards for the LCLS II and LCLS II HE major project. The incumbent will also support the development and maintenance of related processes and data governance, policies. This includes developing and standardizing business and data analytics requirements, reviewing operational and business needs and creating Tableau and other system reports and dashboards, and supporting and maintaining data governance process, and information architecture for LCLS II and LCLS II HE major project systems. Additionally, the incumbent will ensure the success and adoption of LCLS II reporting environment within SLAC IT’s existing Business Intelligence infrastructure and integrate all requirements with the ongoing efforts related to automating data feeds, establishing data governance, and developing a long-term data fabric strategy.
Your specific responsibilities include:
- Under minimal supervision, perform the most complex technical work associated with a wide variety of analytical data and produce routine, single data sources’ information requests.
- Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management and other internal end-users.
- Devise methods for identifying data patterns, trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Determine and recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements.
- Design and customize reports based upon data in the database.
- Automate workflows to streamline processes by determining all dependencies and coming up with the best course of action given the parameters and toolset available for the project.
- Collect data requirements and produce data products from a minimal set of inputs for stakeholders from various domains and technical abilities by communicating in a clear and concise manner.
- Create non-routine databases and their related information summary; develop algorithms and statistical model; and perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements.
- Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics, surveys, or data entry and cleaning.
- Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
- Collaborate with technical staff to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics.
- May test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
- In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
- Expert ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.
- Proficient knowledge of SQL, Python, Excel, and Tableau
- Basic statistical ability.
- Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
- Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 - $112,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
