Data Business Partner, North American Data Assets

The Data and Analytics division (DAA) is dedicated to data asset creation, data engineering, and data analytics. We shape and coordinate Munich Re’s agenda in these fields to take advantage of the growing opportunities provided by data and analytics. Our goal is to enable new and better business via data-centric solutions and to create new strategic opportunities through data and analytics excellence.

The Data Assets team is the driver of Munich Re’s data agenda and the key partner for services around data and data products. We strategically invest in the creation of data assets, source external data, and together with Business Units, build accessible high quality data products. At the exciting forefront of the digital transformation and the rapidly growing importance of data, it is our mission to enable the organization to generate additional bottom-line results by leveraging the power of data.

The Data Assets Team is based out of Munich and the US and works with internal and external partners across the globe. The team closely liaises and jointly drives projects with all business units and central units like Corporate Underwriting and Corporate Claims. In order to grow the team, we are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial and/or product mindset, being curious, committed, and excited about shaping the future of Munich Re in the role of a “Data Business Partner”. This position focuses on Munich Re’s North American businesses, but would collaborate on global topics also.


YOUR JOB

  • Drive Munich Re´s data strategy by defining product vision and roadmap for data products primarily in North America
  • Work closely together with business, central, and innovation teams in Reinsurance, US Specialty Lines and Life & Health to understand data requirements and identify and shape the most promising use cases
  • Lead cross functional data product teams as a data product manager to create relevant, value adding and reusable data assets
  • Define and track service level agreements and usage statistics for your data products such as fill rates, duplicate ratios, update frequency, etc.
  • Provide data sourcing and data consultation/research services on high value, strategic use cases that have cross-business unit impact
  • Provide continuous and deep understanding of the North American data landscape
  • Facilitate synergies/cost sharing between business units by connecting similar use cases to leverage learnings
  • Actively market new data solutions to relevant stakeholders in North America and drive transparency regarding existing and potentially available data across Munich Re.


YOUR PROFILE

  • Excellent understanding of the US insurance market, e.g. as a certified actuary or a data scientist in an insurance domain for 5+ years
  • Proven project management capabilities in an agile setup for 3+ years
  • Strong proficiency in technical data handling, e.g. writing SQL or Python scripts to manipulate data for 3+ years
  • Entrepreneurial and customer-centric mindset and ability to develop strategic targets and conceptually transform requirements into solutions
  • Integrative personality, strong in building and maintaining relationships (internally and externally)
  • Drive and dedication, as well as creativity and hands-on attitude to initiate and execute use cases
  • Excellent ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical communities to ensure data uses and limitations are well understood and will provide substantive business value


Munich Re America Services (MRAS) is a shared service organization that delivers services to all Munich Re US P&C Companies and other group entities.


The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including NYC. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s NYC location.


The base salary range anticipated for this position is $188,300 - $276,200 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
