Data Center Operations Engineer - Hardware Services

Data centers are at the heart of Bloomberg's technologies, which produce, distribute and protect some of the most critical and valuable data in global business. The Bloomberg Hardware Services team is dedicated to ensure a smooth end-to-end process for data center activities. The team's primary focus is vendor case management from problem determination, data collection, onsite scheduling, case metrics through resolution. The team will be responsible for driving issues to resolution with our vendors in order to streamline workflows into our 24 x 7 infrastructure support teams. The team will also be expected to use trend analysis to identify inefficiencies and systemic issues in our processes and across our data centers. Implementing solutions and effecting change will be critical in ensuring Bloomberg's core technology remains online and stable.

Job Shifts:
Team members will need to be flexible on work location and should be prepared to be asked to report to any of our four data centers in Dayton - New Jersey, Totowa - New Jersey, Piscataway - New Jersey, Orangeburg - New York or one of New York City offices. The team's responsibilities are divided into three shifts, first shift, evening shift, and overnight shift. Team members will need to be available for all shifts depending on the business need. Team members will be expected to be able to work certain holidays and weekend rotations as needed.

We'll trust you to:
  • Improve data center operational efficiency
  • Manage events around vendor issues
  • Perform impact and risk assessment along with service notification
  • Detect, investigate, and drive both hardware and operating system issues
  • Create better workflows
  • Create and maintain documentation, training, runbooks, and SLAs for all data center managed infrastructure
You'll need to have:
  • 4+ years of experience in a Linux/Unix environment as a system/network administrator or engineer
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and Windows
  • Ability to work independently and in a team while prioritizing workloads
  • Strong communication skills and experience coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience across a multitude of compute, storage and network hardware platforms
  • Ability to educate and influence team members to help continually moving the team's skill set forward
We'd love to see:
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), CompTIA A+, NET+, and/or CCNA certification
  • Interest in learning new technologies
  • Working knowledge of JIRA, Grafana, Humio or other visualization tools
  • Hands-on experience with server and network hardware out-of-band environments
  • Exposure to basic programming or scripting
  • Working knowledge of Layer 2 (Data Link Layer) and 3 (Network Layer) of the OSI Model.

Salary Range: 90,000 - 160,000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
