Job Description


The Center for Children and Technology (CCT) is a research and development center within EDC and is based in New York City. Founded in 1980, CCT investigates how technology can influence and enhance teaching and learning across a wide range of educational settings. CCT conducts basic, applied, causal and formative research, working in collaboration with educational, corporate, government and research institutions. CCT also designs and develops prototype software and instructional resources that support engaged, active learning. CCT offers a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment that seeks to answer challenging and practical questions about teaching and learning and is centered on teachers and students and the tools that can help create successful learning environments.

CCT is seeking 3 part-time, Data-Collectors (Casual I) to work on various early learning projects that focus on the use of digital media to promote learning in young children. The Data-Collector (Casual I) will assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection (including direct child assessments), meeting with participating families, and supporting the implementation of large research studies. The candidate must have a willingness, availability and flexibility for travel within the New York City area and to other data collection locations across the country (exact locations are to be determined) from September 2023 – April 2024.

EDC Casual employees generally work as needed. A casual position receives statutory benefits of Social Security contributions, Medicare contributions, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance and sick leave. A casual position ends when work is complete.

You will:

  • Participate in all data collection and study trainings
  • Travel to local data-collection locations
  • Conduct assessments with young children
  • Conduct study orientation meetings and interviews with parents
  • Communicate effectively with families participating in study
  • Facilitate project teamwork; engaging collaboratively in feedback
  • Coordinate and communicate with study team leaders to follow established data collection protocols, and to submit data collected in a timely fashion
  • Assist with the set-up of technology and equipment in preparation for study activities
  • Assist with various administrative tasks relevant to the study

Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with young children
  • Experience working with families of young children

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Coursework in psychology, education, or early childhood
  • 1–2 years related research or education
  • Experience administering assessments to children
  • Experience serving as a teacher or assistant teacher in an early childhood or elementary classroom
  • Proficiency in Spanish

This position offers an anticipated hourly range of approximately $28 to $30. Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
