Description

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology coordinates the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) research programs and is charged with advancing rigorous analysis and the deployment of cross-cutting technologies to improve our Nation's transportation system. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics is the Principal Federal Statistical Agency that provides objective, comprehensive, and relevant information on the extent and use of the Nation’s transportation system, how well the system performs, and the effects of the system on society and the environment.

Do you want to help DOT, planning agencies, and researchers of demonstrate the importance and role of transportation data and analysis for the Nation?

Take an appointment with our team and learn how to analyze the impact of the transportation system. The fellow will participate on research and analysis in the area of supply chain systems. Several initiatives within DOT that the fellow may contribute to include: Freight Logistics Optimization Works program (FLOW), Ocean Shipping Reform Act (OSRA) data collection, and Ocean Shipping Container Availability Report (OSCAR) data collection.

This fellowship offers a competitive stipend, travel allowance and eligible for Health Insurance benefits.

The appointment will be served within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics in Washington, DC as a Data Research Fellow.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in supply chain research;
  • Demonstrated experience with R, Python, SAS, or other statistical software;
  • Demonstrated experience linking various and transportation datasets;
  • Demonstrated experience with Travel Demand Modeling/Forecast;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • A self-starter with the ability to perform work with limited supervision and changing outcome goals;
  • Knowledge of and interest in U.S. transportation systems; State DOT's and MPO's;
  • Experience presenting results in a clear, effective, and attractive manner to inform next steps;
  • Proficiency translating high level business requirements into detailed design specifications;
  • Ability to collaborate across various offices and work units to obtain information, collaborate on data-related projects, and validate findings and conclusions;
  • Demonstrated experience on climate change mitigation and adaptation policy;
  • Demonstrated experience alternative energy, and transportation statutes.
