Database Administrator

Database Administrators roles and responsibilities are crucial to the success of our product platform at Entrata. The Database Administrator (DBA) is pivotal in providing highly scalable and performant databases which drive features and functions for our product platform. The DBA proactively works with development, operations and support teams to provide technical and operational support of database servers, including logical and physical database design, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance-tuning, monitoring and optimization.

The Database Administrator is key to the success of Entrata’s Research and Development (R & D) department and reports through the Platforms Organization. This position is primarily responsible for the support and uptime of mission-critical PostgreSQL data applications and services. The role includes everything from configuration, performance, security, automation, observability and more. Success for this role will be to focus on automation, high-availability, performance, and end-to-end optimizations of our databases.

Responsibilities will include

    • Design, deploy and manage PostgreSQL instances on-premise and on AWS infrastructure, ensuring scalability, availability and security.
    • Responsible for the monitoring and uptime of all production and test databases.
    • Develop and implement procedures for automated monitoring, incident response, performance and high-availability of our databases.
    • Participate in architecting and designing zero-downtime database services.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Engineering, Architecture and Product teams to provide database application features for our customers.
    • Implement and manage database automation tools and frameworks to streamline operations and minimize manual intervention
    • Work with Database Engineers to ensure query optimization and performance tuning.
    • Responsible for data protection strategies including regular backups and recovery processes.
    • Leverage cloud technologies to improve performance, reliability, quality and reduce cost for our database services.

Minimum Qualifications

    • 5+ years overall experience, including 3+ years of database administration.
    • Bachelors in Computer Science or related field.
    • Experience setting up and managing PostgreSQL cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)Strong understanding of modern cloud-native environments (AWS preferred) and containerization technologies.
    • Detailed understanding of PostgreSQL database server architecture, concepts, features and high-availability strategies.
    • Understanding of managing geographically dispersed infrastructure and disaster recovery environments.
    • Experience in one or more scripting/programming languages and tools for automation.
    • Ability to perform in a high energy environment with dynamic job responsibilities and priorities.
    • Strong analytical skills to debug, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems.
    • Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.

Preferred Qualifications

    • AWS Certifications.
    • Experience in a high-volume or critical production environment.
    • Expertise in analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed database systems.
    • Python and Rundeck for automation.
