We are expanding our team dedicated to back-end development of our new analytical platform, designed for creating analytical data products for our customers. We look for an experienced professional who will ensure our databases are in good shape - both from a development and operations perspective.

We are looking for a database administrator - a database guru who has experience or is eager to learn PostgreSQL and its on-premise and SaaS alternatives, which are leveraged by GoodData Cloud platform. Your daily job will be to keep the DB up, running, performing and fulfilling our SLAs and jumping on issues when they appear. Also, being a decision maker on development activities - designs, architecture, technology selection, etc.

This job is open for Prague or Brno or can be done remotely.

Your core responsibilities

• Keeping the databases in good health and the resources consumed optimally.
• Proactive monitoring of DB health to ensure (high) availability and performance.
• Database performance tuning.
• Designing and helping to implement backup and recovery processes.
• Validation and maintaining data security.
• Participation on install, upgrade and maintenance of the platform.
• Cooperate with developers and users with good database design, provide tips, training, workshops.
• Participate on all the above tasks primarily on PostgreSQL.
• Strongly contributing to strategic directions - architecture, technological stack of usage data storage given the trends.

Skills required

• Previous experience as DBA with OLTP databases (Oracle, DB2, MSSQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL).
• In-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures.
• Hands-on experience with database optimization and tuning.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring systems like Nagios, Munin, Grafana.
• Ability to manage and monitor SQL database servers.
• Good knowledge of Linux operating system administration, troubleshooting and fine-tuning.
• Ability to write scripts in Shell, Perl and/or Python.
• Good analytical skills
• Good level of English

Qualification appreciated as advantage

• Deep SQL and PostgreSQL architecture knowledge.
• Experience with Graphite monitoring system, experience with Splunk.
• Experience with automatic deployment tools Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, etc.
• Ability to read Java/Kotlin code.
• Experience with columnar, relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes
• Experience with monitoring system - Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus
