Senior Bookkeeper / Assistant Controller with Payroll Experience (Part-Time, Remote)
Overview
We’re a growing, woman-owned bookkeeping and payroll firm that supports small businesses with clean, timely, and thoughtful financial services. We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior Bookkeeper or Assistant Controller who can manage client relationships, oversee payroll processing, review junior bookkeepers’ work, and support both day-to-day and strategic accounting tasks.
This is a remote, part-time role (15–20 hours per week to start) with the potential to grow into more hours and leadership responsibilities.
Duties
- Manage or assist with payroll processing for five clients, including timely submissions, compliance, and client communication.
- Serve as the main point of contact for 5–10 bookkeeping clients.
- Review junior bookkeepers’ work for accuracy and timeliness.
- Handle full-charge bookkeeping: bank reconciliations, AP/AR, journal entries, and month-end close.
- Set up and manage workflows in systems like QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Bill.com, and others.
- Participate in onboarding new clients, handling cleanups, and supporting client success.
- Work directly with the firm owner to improve systems, reduce bottlenecks, and enable firm growth.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in full-charge bookkeeping, payroll, or assistant controller-level work.
- Hands-on experience processing payroll using platforms like Gusto, ADP, or similar.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and tools like Bill.com, Gusto, and Google Sheets.
- Strong client communication and the ability to build trust and provide proactive support.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Bonus if you've worked with service-based businesses, salons, or construction clients.
Hours:
Start with 15–20 hours per week. Must be available during some business hours for client calls, payroll deadlines, or internal check-ins.
