McLennan Design is a highly collaborative and dynamic team of professionals focused on merging design, building performance, and research in pursuit of a healthier planet. Our work consists of architecture, urban design and interiors, sustainability consulting, and industrial design projects domestic and abroad and focuses on ‘deep green’ regenerative design projects that make a difference in the world. The ideal candidate should have passion, commitment and enthusiasm for these broad concerns and be equally capable to explore them.

The offices of McLennan Design, Inc are located in the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and in the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Prospective employees ideally would be located in the Seattle area, although remote locations are possible.

What you will Do...

As a Designer lll you will provide mid-level project leadership for projects, working under the direction of the Studio’s leadership and senior staff in support of the lead architect for the project. You will be accountable to uphold the firm’s performance standards, process and vision, are committed to developing the highest level of regenerative and living building, transformative design work. Responsible at the project level for the consistent delivery of the highest quality of design documents and professional services to support this level of work.

What you will need…

A track record of proven project architecture skills and experience working with sustainable design projects; detail-oriented and have the ability to think strategically; demonstrated strong process skills as it applies to the consistent delivery of thorough and quality design documents as well as administering all aspects of projects during each phase of work. You are skilled in developing conceptual computer models and renderings for presentations to clients and other stakeholders.

The ability to lead project team members while motivating them to do their best work without doing it for them is essential. You are a collaborator, clear communicator, team builder and a leader. Able to mentor emerging professionals.

Knowledge, Skills and Education

6-8 years of experience in the profession

Demonstrated experience in large projects

Able to participate in multiple projects at once.

A professional degree in architecture or related field with experience in all phases and aspects of projects. Advanced knowledge of project design, construction documentation/delivery methods and construction materials is required.

Experience in the sustainable design industry and developing a full understanding of the Living Building ChallengeSM is a requirement for this role.
