We are hiring for two available shifts: 7am-3pm; 3pm-11pm
Description of essential duties and responsibilities:

Inspects the detention facility daily to ensure that standards of cleanliness, fire health, safety and security are met and reports any problems to the director on duty or call.

Checks the facility, appliances and equipment to ensure that everything is in good repair and reports any problems to the director on duty or on call.

Conducts a resident count at both the beginning and end of each shift.

Assumes responsibility for the keys of the facility. Ensures that all keys are accurately counted and present in the facility, twice on every shift.

Supervises and evaluates detention/sanction officers on their shift, reporting any problems to the director on duty or on call.

Responsible for dispensing medication to residents as directed by the medical authority.

Coordinates with teachers and the program coordinators on schedules and resident information.

Ensures that the shift supervisor is aware of all pertinent information that affects the health and well-being of residents and the safety and security of the facility.

Assumes responsibility for the residents’ property and clothing.

Communicates all pertinent information to the incoming shift.
-
Submits a supply list when items are getting low.
-
Handles problems with residents when they occur.
-
Trains new detention/sanction officers.

Is responsible for ensuring that the physical and emotional needs of the residents are met, within the defined parameters of the detention center.

Provides direct supervision of the residents, keeping them in close proximity and in visual and auditory contact during programs times.

Prepares all necessary paperwork including intake and release forms, daily logs, incident reports, medical reports, etc…

Performs housekeeping duties in defined areas and ensures the detention center is clean.

Develops a thorough understanding of all security and emergency procedures.

Performs other job duties as directed by the program coordinator or the detention director.

Must wear a county-issued shirt

Comes to work on a regular full-time basis.
Qualifications for position:
-
Must be at least 21 years of age with a bachelor’s degree; or with some college and six months experience with juvenile or adult corrections, or social services; or with a high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of work-related experience, one of which should be in a detention or resident setting.

Must pass background clearance and drug screening process.
Supervisory relationships:
-
Is under the direct supervision of the program coordinator and or the director(s).
Skills and knowledge required:
-
The individual must be physically able to restrain a juvenile should it become necessary
-
have adequate visual and auditory skills to supervise resident/detainees
- Be physically able to stand on his or her feet for an entire eight-hour shift
- Have skills necessary to operate the security devices in a safe and competent manner
Personal qualities:
-
Individual should have sufficient interpersonal skills to work closely with peers and residents/detainees.
Amount of travel and other special conditions or requirements:
-
Some local travel maybe required in carrying out duties and training
Hours per day or week:
- Must be able to work a variable and flexible schedule

Must be able to come in on short notice if necessary
-
Must be able to work hours other than a regular scheduled shift.
