Development Officer NLH-DHH, Joint Development Office - Part time remote

Overview
The Development Officer (DO) will develop long-term relationships that will lead to philanthropic support for New London Hospital (NLH) and Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) through major and planned gifts. The DO will support both the fundraising priorities of NLH by identifying prospects within its 15-town service area that may also have an interest and capacity to support D-H fundraising priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a major gifts and planned giving officer for NLH as well as a key member of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock major gift teams, actively managing a portfolio of prospects and donors, meeting regularly with donors and prospects to create and foster relationships.
  • The DO will be responsible for deepening existing donor relationships and identifying and cultivating new potential donors.
  • Explore and create best practice strategies for fundraising with both a critical-access hospital and a tertiary care academic medical center with an emphasis on those donors and prospects with interest in supporting the mission of both.
  • Devises and implements donor-centric fundraising strategies to meet personal activity and revenue metrics through portfolio planning and moves management. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of patients, families, and community members with the capacity to make commitments of $5,000 and higher and/or multi-year gift commitments between $10,000 and $500,000.
  • Prepare compelling and strategic major gift donor communications including tailored proposals, correspondence, presentations and briefing notes.
  • Create a comprehensive cultivation and solicitation strategy for each donor/prospect in the portfolio based on the donor/prospect’s philanthropic goals interests, as well as NLH/D-H needs and goals.

Qualifications
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Development. Previous experience with identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts from individual donors.
  • Prior experience at the major gift level preferred.
  • Must possess initiative, leadership, creative energy, well-refined organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to take risks, resilience, negotiating skills and proven fundraising expertise.
  • Intellectual depth, judgement, and professionalism to earn the trust and confidence of hospital leadership and external stakeholders as well as the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across a complex organization.
  • The ability to deal with and thrive within a role that is new and thus requires adaptability and embraces the power of change.
  • Microsoft Office and database experience required.
  • Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.
  • Strong written, presentation, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstration of good judgement, professionalism and the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Travel, local and regional, required.
