Dexterity Inc. has an opening for a Director, Hardware Testing and Production Engineering at 1205 Veterans Blvd., Redwood City, California 94063. 40 hrs/wk; 9am - 5pm; M-F. $253,864 - $255,983.
Responsibilities: Lead end-to-end hardware validation, manufacturing engineering and process solutions for key design features, including validating hardware design capability, manufacturing/assembly process development and capability incorporating all aspects of equipment, consumables, key parameters, process setup, qualification, and documentation; be the in-house expert to evaluate mechanical and electrical designs for functionality, ease of manufacturing and installation; lead the hardware testing strategy, utilize DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis) to predict failures and generate test plans, test execution, analysis and provide feedback to the design teams for improving the product; design and develop, from concept to implementation, equipment, tooling, and fixtures for manufacturing, testing, and installation including creating layouts using AutoCAD, writing technical specifications, and engaging with suppliers for design approval and pre-delivery inspections; work with suppliers to map out process development exercises, secure resources, and commit to schedules in line with program goals. Assess supplier readiness to support build events and production ramp. Apply PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) to identify potential execution issues and provide recommendations to mitigate risk and optimize manufacturing processes; drive the release of design documents, assembly SOPs, test/inspection manuals, installation guides and troubleshooting guides for the parts designed by your team or by other Mechanical Engineers; and oversee teams and assign responsibilities, prepare, and manage budgets, supervise, and train engineers.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, or related field, or foreign equivalent, plus 12 years of experience in engineering positions in the hardware manufacturing industry, 5 years of which must include managing/leading teams. Experience must include: ensuring product readiness for functionality, ease of mass manufacturing and installation; applying DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis) to predict failures and generating hardware test plans; applying PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) to identify issues, optimize manufacturing processes and ensure readiness to support production ramp; creating AutoCAD layouts and technical specifications; machine/ equipment design conceptualization, engaging with suppliers for machine/equipment design approval, pre-delivery testing, and inspections, installation & commissioning; and preparing/managing budgets for the team. 20% travel in US, Taiwan, and Mexico.
