DHR Health - US:TX:Edinburg - Days - VariesSummary:POSITION SUMMARY:Provides planned, skilled forensic nursing care for patients in the critical period of the Emergency Department services. Provides continuous patient care in forensic services and resources for patient in the emergency department. Required to work in emergency department when not with forensic patient.POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :• High School/GED required• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required• Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas required• Current BLS certification• Current enrollment in Texas SANE/Forensic Education Program• Must obtain Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification within 6 months of hire• ACLS and PALS certification within 12 months of hire.• TNCC preferred.• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.• Good written and verbal communication skills required.• Ability to read, write and speak English required• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physiciansJOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :• One ( 1 ) – two ( 2 ) years of Emergency Room experience preferred.• Require to rotate shift schedule as needed to meet department needs.• Require to rotate on call schedule, minimum 1 weekend to maximum 3 weekends a month, as needed to cover department needs.• Requires 1 hour respond time, while on call.• Require to help in emergency department during shift when not with forensic patient.• Require to cover Nurse Manager Shift, as needed to meet department’s needs.• Require constant and frequent judgment and response, occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.• Require availability to answer questions regarding forensic exam if questions arise, before or after shift.• Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.• Must have excellent customer service skills.• High degree of competency/experience in general.Responsibilities:POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice• * Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.• Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of DHR and the department.• Provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assault victim.• Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the ED area.• Performs complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination including Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate.• Follow protocols established by management of the SANE Program.• Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences.• Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies for forensic patient care in ED and in SAFE H.A.V.E.N exam unit.• Keeps all equipment and SAFE H.A.V.E.N. unit in excellent working condition.• Makes sure unit is stocked with all supplies, clean, and SAFE for forensic patients.• Always maintains chain of custody for all evidence collected and adhere to evidence protocols.• Finishes all documentation and seals evidence collection at the time of the exam.• Responds to Forensic Nurse Manager with in 1 hour, to answer questions regarding forensic examination when being called either before or after shift.• Adheres to hospital/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.• Maintain professional standards that do not create conflict with employment or patient care, including patient and medical record confidentiality.• Readily available to meet the needs of the forensic patient and physician.• Provide testimony as fact witness to any/all cases performed while with SANE and coordinate with attorneys during judicial process.• Demonstrates ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.• Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations.• Supports and promotes the organization’s Infection Control Program.• Supports and promotes the organization’s Safety Program.• Supports and promotes the organization’s Risk Management Program.• Demonstrates maturity and accountability for job performance.Other information:LINES OF REPSONSIBILITES :(Chain-of-command)1. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.D.
