THE ROLE

This position assists with food preparation and serving of meals. As part of the Food Services team, the Dietary Aide will provide meal service according to the resident nutritional profile and in a timely manner to maintain a pleasurable dining experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves meals in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provides efficient dining room service, including set up, serving, portioning, labelling, delivery, and presentation of meals, desserts, snacks, and beverages.
  • Serves meals and beverages, following residents' diets and food preferences, using the Dietary Profiles and Therapeutic Menus.
  • Assists in monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises Director of Food Services/Cook of any problems.
  • Performs stock control, rotation, and waste monitoring.
  • Maintains a high level of sanitation and follows all proper food handling techniques. Dates, stores, temperature records, and serves food that ensures food safety and quality.
  • Performs daily cleaning duties, including the set up and clearing of dining tables.
  • Meets scheduled meal and snack times.
  • Participates actively in special occasion and theme meal days.
  • Complies with all provincial regulations and home policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have food service worker experience in an institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality service setting OR have completed a degree, diploma, certificate in a related field.
  • Must maintain up to date certification in the Food Handler Training Program offered by Public Health.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have previous Long Term Care experience
  • A minimum of grade 10 education.
