Summary
As an Actuarial Director for Cedar Gate Technologies, you will create mathematical and statistical models to calculate likely outcomes and present findings in detailed reports. To be successful in this role, you should have enthusiasm for collaborating with non-actuaries to creatively solve problems through analytic approaches. Ultimately, we expect you to contribute to building algorithms and structured analysis that guide our clients to making the most impactful investments through identification of cost and quality improvement opportunities.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop mathematical, financial analyses to solve problems that comply with actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs)
  • Build and maintain expertise in new and existing CMS value-based care programs with the ability to research and clearly communicate actuarial aspects, drivers of financial success and drivers of clinical success. This includes timely research of new programs as well as changes to existing programs
  • Construct value-based contract forecasts of future premiums, claims and risk scores based on past operations and anticipated future changes
  • Clearly explain value-based contract forecast assumptions, volatility, sensitivity analysis and risks to clients
  • Automate repeating actuarial tasks identifying opportunities to include methods as software features
  • Assist software developers in deploying software features through development of written requirements, definition of use cases, user acceptance testing and serving as a subject matter expert to assure appropriate use of methods as well as proper communication of limitations and disclosures
  • Estimate probability and likely cost of events such as an accident, death, natural disaster or sickness
  • Explain reports, forecast estimates and findings to various parties, from company executives to clients, shareholders, and government officials that comply with actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs)
  • Build predictive models to accurately analyze potential outcomes
  • Compare actual ROIs with forecasts
  • Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for new investments and funds

Required Experience / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, or business.
  • Work experience as an Actuary with an ASA or FSA
  • In-depth understanding of how to use actuarial formulas and tables
  • Hands-on experience with statistical packages like R or Python
  • Good knowledge of insurance legislation
  • Hands-on experience working with CMS value-based care models (e.g., MSSP and/or ACO REACH/Direct Contracting) as well as experience with models in Commercial, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage market spaces, including Pay for Performance contracts, ACOs, Capitation and Bundle models
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to:
    • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
    • Write simple correspondence
    • Speak professionally
    • Present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Proven mathematical skills in all units of measure computing rate, ratio, and percent
  • Ability to accurately create and interpret findings with charts and graphs.
