Job Summary
The Director, Applications Development is responsible for the management and execution of application development programming for SAP and other platforms, building interfaces, our global software development methodology, EDI and the technical aspects of Master Data Governance. This leader manages a team of employee resources as well as an extended team of contract resources. As part of our Moving 4Ward (S4) program, this role plays a key part in establishing new standards and implementing best practices for several new technologies (user interfaces, scripting, ABAP code, mobile technologies, integration strategy, conversational AI and more) while supporting our legacy environment(s) and implementing S/4HANA.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage ongoing construction of development efforts for multiple project / programs while working with other IT and business leaders to ensure effective delivery
- Leads quality control efforts and ensures delivery of enhancements and new functionality for SAP and additional software solutions over time
- Lead the development and consistent execution of technology designs and programming practices
- Provides coaching and leadership for the delivery of technical work products adhering to best practices
- Leads the road map of application development tools, related use cases and methods
- Collaborates with IT Business Partners, Solution and Enterprise Architects on project design
- Provides technical oversight and development guidance, coaching and support to development team members
- Experience developing on common platforms, tools and methodologies
- Develops the capability for custom development efforts when needed
- Works collaboratively with cross functional IT team members and business leaders to ensure effective cross-project communication and issue management.
- Leads the development of the transition process of newly developed code through a warranty period to successful transition to the dedicated support team. Provides analytics and intermediate data logs necessary for isolation of support issues encountered in the support team.
- Ensures and monitors programmer productivity. Regularly provides constructive feedback, coaching and training for developers.
- Leads thought process on developing bundled development opportunities through vendor partnerships. Accountable for high quality delivery results regardless of method.
- Defines and manages resourcing models along with relevant staff augmentation costs and budgets
- Works collaboratively with external partners and managed services providers to ensure technical services are achieved and per contract
- Responsible for budgeting, forecast and accountable for cost
- Leads the development and execution of technical service contracts with external partners
- Manages partner relationships and expectations and provides oversight of services and deliverables.
- Team acts as escalation point to resolve various types of technical support incidents
Education and Experience Profile
- 12+ years of relevant experience working in and leading technical development teams, including all aspects of major enterprise business systems and related technologies as well as experience in a management and leadership role providing functional support to business applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and experience in a similar role
- Experience working for a manufacturing, distribution or consumer goods company
Required Skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple development projects simultaneously while providing oversight, accountability and mentoring of the team members
- Demonstrated ability to create positive and productive work environments while leading 10 or more team members
- Experience with various development methodologies and application development best practices, platforms and tools
- Experience with managing multiple development environments including SAP development tools, modules and related products preferably in S 4/HANA
- Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other business organizations; successful experience in working with diverse groups of people in a problem-solving environment
- History of applying varied approaches to solve complex technology design and development challenges
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to forecast, plan and execute development in a consistent, predictable manner with high quality results
- Ability to scope the level of effort required by technical staff to complete projects
- Service orientation to solving problems and working collaboratively in a global environment
