ABOUT THE FLOCK

Bluebird is seeking a talented leader to join our growing organization to support our pursuit of curative gene therapies. The Director, Commercial and Sales Training will lead the development of the training plan in partnership with sales and marketing in support of our two approved therapies ZYNTEGLO (for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with β-thalassemia who require regular red blood cell (RBC) transfusions) and SKYSONA (to slow the progression of neurologic dysfunction in boys 4-17 years of age with early active cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD)). Additionally, this person will be the architect of the training approach and plan in preparation for our third product launch in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). This person will be responsible for onboarding and continuous development of our Qualified Treatment Center Account Leads (QTAL) team as well as other field teams, executing product training and process training related to the roles and responsibilities of the QTAL and field observation and coaching. Additionally, the person in this role will provide strategic support for enterprise related training. We are seeking a candidate that has a demonstrated successful track record in US commercial roles, demonstrated success in working with high performing teams, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment and a clear understanding of the importance of strong matrix collaboration. The position - headquartered in Somerville, MA (or U.S. remote) – will report through the Marketing, Sales and Analytics department at bbb.


HOW YOU'LL FLY

You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:

  • Partnering with Sales, Marketing and HR Business Partners to, design, develop, and deliver customized curriculum and learning and development programs across our product portfolio, including Gene therapy specific training to meet market evolution and challenges to ensure all trainings meet the aligned goal and objectives.
  • Strategic planning, development, execution, and facilitation of comprehensive sales training curricula focused on advanced skill sets and capabilities for use during training classes, POAs and other national/ regional meetings.
  • Working with and/or managing external vendors and internal personnel to ensure the successful design and roll-out of assigned training programs and projects.
  • Acting and leading as a subject matter expert on product, disease state and QTC onboarding, activation and patient pull through.
  • Providing training support including designing and facilitating trainings to bbb organization.
  • Managing the Training & Development Budget for the training organization.
  • Developing, executing and maintaining/archiving training content and programs as needed, within the bbb Legal Medical Regulatory review process, Veeva and the LMS.
  • Assessing the training and development needs of the field team through various methods including field visits and gap analyses.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of training and take appropriate steps to continuously enhance the quality of the training curriculum via assessments, field rides, and feedback.
  • Partnering with members of the US Commercial Leadership Team to build bluebird bio SGD franchise capabilities and support industry leadership position

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

You're the bird we're looking for if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science; MBA, or advanced degree, preferred but not necessary.
  • 10+ years in the pharmaceutical/biotech field (can include market insights, sales, marketing, etc) with experience in a leadership role, preferably in rare disease specifically Sickle Cell Disease, beta-thalassemia, Hematology, Cell and Gene therapy, Transplant.
  • At least 1-3 years of sales, training, or operations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict, and drive alignment among individuals from a variety of functions, cultures, and disciplines.
  • Experience in high science, competitive market required.
  • Product launch and multiple brand training experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, demonstrated ability to successfully drive a project to completion.
  • Solutions-oriented, strong analytical and presentation skills.

Travel: as required by business (30-40%), including field rides with QTALs, trips to Somerville (if remote), occasional weekends for Medical Congresses, Advisory Boards, etc.


Compensation & Benefits

We offer a total compensation and rewards package that ranks among the best in our industry. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The anticipated annualized salary range for this role is $189,949 - $245,030. Your base pay will be determined based on several factors including market data, demonstrated skills, relevant education or training, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and travel requirements. Our overall package also includes eligibility for stock, incentive bonuses, and benefit programs, a flexible time off program, as well as 28 paid holidays, including 2 company shutdowns.
