Director, Digital Content

Discovery Education is looking for a Director, Digital Content to join our product team. You will lead the Digital Publishing team to support Discovery Education’s digital content strategy. The individual is responsible for managing Discovery Education’s robust content collection – including evaluation, publishing, creating captions, managing metadata, curating, and sunsetting content for Discovery Education’s K-12 subscription services.

What You Will Do

• Manage Discovery Education’s robust content collection and lead the team that evaluates, publishes, curates, and sunsets digital content resources for educator and student audiences worldwide. This includes FTE’s and independent contractors.
• Manage and ensure consistency, accuracy, and clarity in the application of Discovery Education's editorial style across all content.
• Lead the metadata strategy and manage and ensure consistency and accuracy in the application of Discovery Education's metadata conventions across all content.

• Lead the curation and content collections strategy, including media packs and channels, for Discovery Education’s platform.
• Research, review, and recommend personalized content for Discovery Education's customers, as well as content for marketing, instructional activities, quizzes, and other features.
• Evaluate existing and potential content for cultural authenticity and sensitivity.
• Act as the evangelist for the Content team, working on cross-functional initiatives across the product organization to improve product offerings and troubleshoot issues.
• Lead internal and external presentations about our content.
• Support and lead other content development projects as needed.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in educational multimedia content development serving schools, libraries, and/or universities.
• 3+ years of experience managing a team.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (Education, English, Library and Information Science) or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in use of multiple types of software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, JIRA).
• Proficiency in writing, grammar, and spelling, and mastery of Chicago Manual of Style.
• Strong level of comfort and/or experience with complex content management systems and experience with metadata a plus.
• Excellent organizational skills and exceptional ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members in geographically dispersed offices.
• In-depth knowledge of the K-12 global educational marketplace, including available content, product types, and trends.
