Job Scope
Oversees daily operation of a singular department or campus. Directs staff, which should include people managers,
in the development and implementation of departmental or campus policies, procedures, and programs. Adheres
to both district policy and governmental regulations concerning department or campus operations. Manages
departmental or campus structure, development, training, and planning.
Position Summary
The Director of Emergency Management is responsible for planning for accidents, natural disasters, and other
emergency scenarios. The Director collaborates with organizational leaders to anticipate potential risks, assess
probabilities, and develop plans to respond effectively.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Responsible for implementation, oversight, and management of the district’s Multi-Hazard Emergency
Operations Plan (MHEOP).
2. Ensures the school district remains in compliance with all federal, state, local and district regulations
regarding emergency management.
3. Assist with the development and oversight of staff, budgets, administration, policies, procedures,
emergency response, and technology improvements.
4. Responsible for the development, training, and implementation of the district’s emergency management
plan at all schools and district facilities.
5. Collaborates with district leadership and external stakeholders to drive service requirements and ensure
safe school communities.
6. Establishes team goals utilizing a data-driven approach and ensures the team successfully executes as
required.
7. Directs the planning, organizing and execution of district Emergency Management and Homeland Security
activities, conferring as necessary with the County and State emergency management agencies and with
neighboring emergency management directors to assure that its activities are an integral and coordinated
part of the overall County, State, and National programs.

8. Ensures leadership and implementation of all emergency training for both school and non-school facilities
within the district.
9. Prepares reports and correspondence to district leadership.
10. Organizes regular disaster exercises to test local and district emergency response agencies. Directs the
planning and implementation of our access control and technology investments throughout the district.
11. Assist in annual budget development and control.
12. Serves as a member of the district emergency team and leads the parent-student reunification process
during a district-wide emergency.
13. Maintains and updates hazard mitigation, emergency response and recovery plans for the district and
mutual aid agreements with neighboring communities.
14. Secures and maintains information regarding facilities and resources of the district and of neighboring
mutual aid jurisdictions for use in emergency situations.
15. Implements and recommends best practices in emergency management.
16. Regularly manage and/or conduct building assessments to ensure building safety emergency compliance.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities
expected for this position.
Minimum Requirements
o 3+ years of experience in management responsibilities.
