Job Summary
The Director, Financial Applications - Hyperion is the primary technology leader to develop strategy and deliver technical solutions for Oracle Hyperion products, including Essbase and Hyperion Planning, and any future technology that is chosen to support financial forecast and budget processes. This newly created senior leadership role will join our Financial Applications team, which is a “Business-Led IT” model embedded within the CFO organization for Bread Financial. This team serves as subject matter experts on finance technology, and is responsible for all finance-owned software applications including functional support, code development, user administration, and technical control and policy compliance. The Financial Applications team plays a key role in the CFO organization’s pursuit of operational excellence by deploying technology and reporting solutions that help simplify, automate and improve finance and accounting processes.
The Director, Financial Applications - Hyperion will assume ownership and support responsibilities of 20+ Essbase cubes and two Hyperion Planning applications used by the CFO organization for reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting. Essbase cubes currently house both General Ledger data from our PeopleSoft ERP, and operational credit card portfolio data from our Enterprise Data Warehouse. This role is responsible for optimizing Essbase cube structure and data organization, increasing user adoption of our current technology platforms, recommending system roadmaps and strategy, developing and delivering application enhancements, and serving as trusted business partners to users within the finance organization. The Director, Financial Applications - Hyperion will report to the VP, Financial Applications and will have a team of functional and technical roles reporting to them. This role will have three internal peers including Director, Financial Applications - Data Sourcing; Manager, Financial Applications - ERP; and Senior Manager, Financial Applications - Services. Additionally, this role will coordinate heavily with the CFO organization’s Finance Transformation Office (FTO) on the resourcing, planning, execution and successful delivery of technology projects.
Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
Strategy - Technology owner and subject matter expert for Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Planning and any future forecast/budgeting software applications used by the CFO organization. Own and direct all aspects of application support and user experience for assigned applications, including both functional and development responsibilities. Lead a team of professionals to develop and support best-in-class technology solutions to meet business needs with a focus on operational excellence. Help create a vision and roadmap for our technology that enable the finance organization to deliver against its multi-year goals. Speak to both Finance and IT partners in clear, concise language that is either technical or non-technical depending on audience.
Full Ownership of Assigned Book of Work - Ensure all team deliverables and issue resolution is tracked in a centralized location consistently across the Financial Applications team, and that applications are appropriately upgraded on a defined timetable. Recommend resourcing approach for book of work, and deliver solution within agreed upon timelines. Prioritize visibility as to status of outstanding work. Provide excellent solution delivery and customer service to finance and accounting users and FTO Projects.
Communication and Relationships - Build relationships to understand business and user needs, assist with translating those into high-quality project requirements and design documents, provide recommendations for best utilization of technology to meet those needs, and deliver an effective solution. Prioritize efficient and streamlined solutions that limit software customizations and future support loads while enhancing financial controls. Prioritize clear, concise, timely and non-technical communication to finance end users and management. Proactively communicate concerns and potential issues.
Process Development - Develop best-in-class team operating protocols including standardized processes, structured code review, change management procedures, documentation of key and recurring processes, usage of a centralized repository for all team documentation, and cross-training between team members. Provide high-quality daily application support to Finance and Accounting users on assigned applications. Maximize the up time for each application. Be responsive to user inquiries and escalated issues. Create and deliver training classes, training videos and “lunch and learns” for assigned applications to increase user knowledge of application functionality. Author and maintain training materials in partnership with CFO College. Respond to user questions regarding effective use of applications. Provide regular communications to users on new functionality available or any recent changes made to the application. Create and maintain 36-month system development roadmaps and application and interface summary diagrams, for assigned applications. Develop a summary document to define the purpose and scope of each Essbase cube. Review and update these documents at least annually. Regularly assess the purpose and structure for each Essbase cube to ensure it best meets business and user needs.
Business Relationships - Host recurring steering committee of users for assigned applications to solicit user feedback, additional business needs and future goals. Leadership role in the sourcing, selection and implementation of technology solutions to support forecast and budget financial processes, as indicated by our technology roadmaps and user steering committees. Effective coordination with Finance Transformation Office, Financial Data Management Office, Financial Data Strategy & Emerging Technology team, and other CFO committees in a cohesive approach to CFO department goals, policies and transformation initiatives. Effective coordination with the Financial Applications’ Data Sourcing Team and Enterprise Data Management Team to source and integrate financial data between assigned applications and other reporting tools. Ensure compliance with finance data dictionary and other financial data governance processes. Continually drive for increased user adoption of our financial technology and tools. Regularly seek out new functionality, better ways to use existing software, or options for additional technology to enable the finance organization to fulfill its mission. Develop collaborative relationships across financial applications, the CFO Organization and Bread Financial as a whole.
Leadership – Able to effectively influence and guide finance business partners, provide guidance on strategic plans and initiatives, and provide recommendations on technology solutions to address business needs for forecasting and budgeting processes. Lead both team and business partners through change and positively confront issues and resolve conflict. Commitment to effective performance management including developing and measuring goals annually, and communicating regularly with direct reports on performance and career progression. Ensure all key processes are documented, SOX controls are implemented and effective, work is tracked in a centralized manner, and back-ups are trained. Additive to the operational excellence culture of the CFO organization. Exhibit a continuous improvement mindset, drive process simplification and automation, and support the Finance Transformation Office mission. Plan, scope, execute and complete technology projects using either a traditional or an agile approach. Deep understanding of Hyperion team processes, as well as quickly learning and adapting to both upstream and downstream processes and usse of data.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:
  • Dallas or Columbus location preferred, remote candidates will be considered.
  • Normal office environment. Hybrid in-office and remote schedule. As a senior leader, must work at a Bread Financial office a minimum of 5 days per month.
  • Ability to travel 5 days a month if not located near a Bread Financial office or client site.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 12+ years of relevant technology experience.
  • 10+ years of experience leading high performing teams in a professional setting.
  • Strong subject matter expertise in Hyperion Essbase.
  • Experience in Hyperion Essbase and SQL.
  • Required to work from a Bread Financial office or client site at least 5 days each month, regardless of hybrid or work-from-home status. Must be able to travel 5 days per month if needed, because of this requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or finance.
  • Experience developing and supporting Hyperion Essbase cubes in a financial services business.
  • Experience supporting forecast and budget processes for a finance organization or implementing technology to support forecast and budget processes.
  • Experience supporting account-level profitability for a credit card business.
  • Experience with Hyperion planning applications, familiarity with data sourced from PeopleSoft ERP / GL, or using a Data Warehouse to source data for Essbase.

Typical Starting Range:
$131,700.00 - $272,700.00
Full Salary Range for position:
California:$151,600.00 - $340,900.00
Colorado:$131,700.00 - $286,400.00
New York:$144,800.00 - $340,900.00
Washington:$138,300.00 - $313,900.00
The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.
All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safety Time per calendar year at the beginning of each year and is prorated in the associate’s first year of employment.
Hired associates will be able to elect to purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
