MajorDuties

The incumbent: Provides leadership and direction in developing CDC's plans for injury prevention & control activities, priorities, goals and objectives. Works with senior leadership in CIOs to identify injury prevention/control problems and issues, and to institutionalize processes to ensure ongoing responsiveness in CDC's program initiatives. Collaborates with national and international leaders to better understand the causes of injuries, supports programs to reduce violence, and monitors injury related health issues and outcomes through surveys. Works in partnership with national and international agencies and institutions to shape injury policies and to fund, implement, and evaluate programs. Partnerships include WHO and other UN agencies, other federal agencies within the USG, private organizations, and universities. Deals with high level government and private sector officials through continuous health monitoring through various methods; scientific research to advance knowledge and develop evidence-based program solutions; management of high priority health initiatives and programs; communications to a broad array of stakeholders, partners, and audiences; a wide array of services; and resource management.

Current federal employees must be at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or above to be considered for this position. Basic Qualifications for RF-0602: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Specialized experience is that which is directly related to the position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, such as providing leadership in developing and executing a national program for non-occupational injury prevention and control with federal, state and local agencies, voluntary and private sector organizations. Typically, experience of this nature is gained at or above the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
