Director of Engineering, IoT RF & AMS Group

The Role
The Director of Engineering defines strategy, goals and resourcing plans for the team, guides execution of projects, and promotes the professional development of the staff. The role is uniquely influential in setting the direction and pace of development of chip design in Silicon Labs’ focal area of wireless IOT SoCs. The Director is the face of the organization to other teams both inside and outside of Silicon Labs and combines good communication skills with mastery of the technical issues and firm understanding of the capabilities and needs of the team.
The ideal candidate is highly technical, inquisitive, collaborative, creative, decisive, and able to formulate and communicate a vision extending several years into the future.

Day-to-day responsibilities typically include:
  • Contributing to product roadmap and strategy, through individual planning tasks and participation in strategy meetings
  • Making decisions on technical proposals and define work supporting that decision-making
  • Developing staff through performance management, leadership development, technical training support, regular staff meetings, and one-on-one consultations
  • Setting hiring targets, make hiring decisions, and participate in recruiting
  • Coordinating with other engineering functions to advance projects through their lifecycles, by individual planning and participation in cross-functional project meetings
  • Performing detailed resource planning for execution of projects and respond to changes in schedule or scope
  • Driving team staff meetings and communications
  • Communicating with key customers
  • Participating in ad hoc problem resolution sessions
  • Participating occasionally in hands-on bug resolution or research topics
  • Maintaining familiarity with the state of the art through independent reading, conferences, and studies
Required education and experience:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 10+ professional experience in IC design
  • 5+ years of professional experience in IC design management.

Preferred experience or knowledge:
  • Skills in people management, including leadership and staff development skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills
  • Direct experience designing and bringing into mass production RF and Analog circuits.
  • Broad knowledge across RF, Analog and mixed signal circuits
  • Advanced understanding of device noise, mismatch, linearity, and other RF and analog impairments
  • Advanced knowledge in signals, systems and transforms
  • Strong knowledge of RF design and implementation techniques
  • Solid experience in Si characterization and debug
  • Understanding of DFT and DFM techniques for mass production environment

The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $164,500 - $305,500 USD. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, geographic location where work will be performed and applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, equity package and a comprehensive benefits package.
