We're one of the fastest growing fintechs in the U.S. and have had another record-breaking year. In 2021 we almost doubled our headcount and valuation. Our personal finance app makes investing easy and affordable; this year our customers set aside more than $3 billion with Stash.

Let's solve complex problems and tackle wealth inequality.

You will serve a critical role in helping Stash understand its regulatory obligations and be a leader in driving practical, risk-based solutions to identify and manage legal risks.

The right person will be an organized, self-starter who is curious by nature, knows how to prioritize their day and can get up to speed on complex matters and build meaningful relationships across the organization quickly.

Stash is a fast-paced growth company—join us to work on hard, important problems, have fun, and make history.

What you'll do:

  • Be our in-house subject matter legal expert and thought leader on broker-dealer laws, rules, regulations, and trends;
  • Advise the company on regulatory and self-regulatory matters, including providing legal support to examinations or inquiries by, or other correspondence with, FINRA and the SEC, primarily related to the broker-dealer, but also the investment adviser;
  • Work collaboratively with intra-team and cross-functional partners, including Product, Design, Engineering, DevSecOps, Marketing, Risk, Customer Experience, and Legal & Compliance, to develop creative solutions to complex challenges related to legal and regulatory matters impacting the company's broker-dealer and investment adviser;
  • Maintain certain parts of our customer-facing legal documentation;
  • Be a team player willing to support other product & regulatory, commercial, and corporate work, as needed;
  • Overseeing outside counsel supporting any of the above.

Who you are:

  • Genuinely excited by Stash's mission and the opportunity to address wealth inequality
  • Collaborative with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ultimate team player and solutions-oriented.
  • Have exceptional judgment and a risk-based approach with the ability to cope with competing priorities and tight timelines.

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a practicing lawyer
  • Membership in good standing in at least one state bar (New York preferred)
